OOps, wrong prediction for Galaxy Tab. It has been sold over 1 million in two months, and Samsung predicts 1.5 million units sold by the end of the year. The price? it's being sold for $899 at Amazon way over the original MSP. I think it's a great product and very successful.

I have seen a couple videos of the Playbook and to be honest I am very disappointed. I think it will do worse then the Galaxy tab. The Notion ink adam is going to be the tab to beat if it can live up to it's promises

The galaxy tab seems like a very nice device. I checked it out in a tmo store in orlando, and I simply couldn't put it down. The problem is (and I'm sure the big wigs over at Sammy Headq in Korea have heard this time and time again) the damn thing is wayyyyyy too expensive. I think they just got greedy, given the success of the galaxy s phones that they thought for sure people would gobble it up. The thing they failed to take into account is that, people would absolutely shell out the dough to buy the phones because it is a PRIMARY USE DEVICE. That is, people will probably use it everyday, and therefore the pricing is justifiable. For a tablet, which is a niche use device, given that many people already own laptops or netbooks, the tablet (I should say all tablets) which is not a purpose driven device (unlike a cell phone - communications, an eReader - for taking in your favorite novel, a notebook - for productivity, xbox/ps3/wii for gaming, etc) is just to say I have one. Right now, tablets have limited productivity use, they do ebooks, but an eReader does it better, the Euro GalaxyTab has the right concept (some communication properties), but I just can't see shelling out 600 Benjis to surf the web and play games, especially when I have devices that already do those well. On the other hand, if the pricing didn't burn a hole through my pant legs, say around 299 - 399 w/o contract, then it would certainly be more palatable. I'd love to have a tablet, but its not a must have right now.
Personally, i'm particularly interested in the Notion Ink Adam, whose pricing will be somewhere between 350 to 499 for different models. The $449 wifi + Pixel Qi model is right in the sweetspot for features and pricing. To me, that's irresistible. I would drop the dough instantaneously for one, as soon as it becomes available. Sammy needs to take a step back, swallow its enormous corporate ego and lower the price, then they'd see their gTab stock flying off the shelf.

P.S. They also need to ditch the carrier and contract pricing shenanigans b/c I don't know who wants to buy two data plans from one carrier anyways, one for their phone and one for a tablet. That's just garbage if you ask me, but that's a whole other matter to debate.

Touche' Though I haven't checked out the IFixit breakdown and estimated materials/manufacturing costs, the street price of a wifi-only unit needs to be less than $250.00. At its current price, why would anyone purchase it over a iPad or tablet/laptop hybrid?

I want a Win 7 tablet less than 1 kg weight, atleast 7 hours battery life (will run winamp, one note, keynote NF / pdf reader / word / excel while on battery), in built wwan, 64 gb SSD and most importantly --- stylus input -- (not much bothered by capacitive) .. Currently using motion LS800 which suffers from less desktop estate (only 800 X 600), less battery life (1 to 1.5 hours), no wwan and higher weight (1.5 Kg and then the adaptor trailing around as cannot sit in meetings which run for two hours mostly).. Ipad is good but no writing support and no one note style app yet.. Sync is ok (currently sync-ing using dropbox between ls800 and the thinkpad).. Would not hesitate to pay £799 for that.. Hanvon BC10 comes closer but no write support. HP 500 slate is not available which is irritating (still remembering the TC1100 fondly which died with a garbled screen).. Dreaming on.. atleast now it is not so distant as it was 2 years back.. bowing to Apple for bringing this market alive..

Its very simple - Samsung killed all hopes for Tab's success at launch.
It is simple way too expensive. In most markets it costs more than iPad.
for an Android tablet to be successful it must be noticably cheaper than iPad but at the same time have decent specs.
Advent Vega is exactly that. It costs less then half the price of Galaxy Tab, while having very decent technical specs and acceptable design.
