This is the stupidest iPad 2 rumor to stay in the rumor mill for so long.

People who don't understand tech are the ones that keep propogating it. They just multiply the iPad's screen surface dimensions, with the current iPhone 4's PPi, and think they cleverly founded a spec for the iPad 2. Wrong.

As mentioned, the cost would be astronomical. Prices for high resolution screens vs low res aren't a steady incline. They multiply exponentially as you get higher, especially in a 4:3 ratio, which is much more expensive to produce then the scam 16:9 (ooohhhh "HD"... gimme a break) for computer displays.

Sure, a SoC might be able to drive it's normal desktop environment fine on a 2048 x 1536 display, but what about video? 720p is going to look like crap. Then Apples bread and butter App Store games will all need to be driven at 2048 x 1536 ? You kidding me.

So let's get this straight. Pros, Steve Jobs will be able to mac-sturbate over a iPad 2 Retina display at his keynote. Cons, skyrocketed cost, shortened battery life, blurrier video, issue with GPU heavy app store games.. yeah... good job "analysts".
