Tried fire and nook,got a nextbook.($180 w 2 yr acc ins) Between the three, nextbook delivers closer to the ipod i own and am used to. Agree with joban. The lowest cut will be $80 ever. Waiting for that drop. A one day event probably. There is nothing yet like ipod in tablet,free apps (good ones),spell check etc.

All other tablet makers are likely selling at a loss or break even and apple’s margins are not the high ether. Maybe instead of saying apple products are expensive people should say why does every one else make such cheap products or sell at a loss?

Do you use an android phone? I use the HTC Wildfire S. It works pretty well. I can use it for Navigation (a built-in app with turn-by turn), a music player, as a web browser (with flash), a pdf reader and many other things. I really don’t understand why people are almost discouraging competition… The Transformer, the Sony Tablet S, the Galaxy Tab, are all great alternatives to the iPad 2. You’re patriotism and arrogance is ridiculous. I own an iMac and soon I’ll own an iPad 2. And to your point, I paid 30 bucks for my phone, it has a 5 megapixel camera, an amazing display and works with micro SD. You’re pretty pretentious for someone who’s so out spoken. That’s a pretty dangerous combination.

Android is barely usable on phones if you use a custom rom but is still slow and jerky with a terrible app selection and quality. Android tablets are just unusable. Plus they don’t have the key advantage of Android phones which is that Android phones are cheap as hell.

This makes no sense considering that iPad profits are not that high and Android competitors cannot even compete with current pricing and make a usable product.
Even dumber is the idea that the Nook, Touchpad and the Playbook are iPad competitors.

Speaking of overlap I wonder since iPod sales are slowing down if the rumored mini-iPad would replace the current iPod touch it would make sense since the mini iPad would be a connected device just like it’s older 9.7″ brother and not a wifi only device

Not bloody damn likely… No one can compete with the iPad at $499 why drop the price? They are selling them just about as fast as production allows.

You’ll see the price drop when the 3 arrives, that’s it.

Currently you can buy a refurb iPad 2 for $50 off.. don’t hold your breath waiting for a drop bigger than that.

Consumers are starting to realize that that Apple Tax just isn’t worth paying anymore considering that there are better alternatives out there.

The iPad is pricey, but it is still making a killing. I wouldn’t expect a price cut in the near-future, because then the iPad would begin to overlap with the iPod Touch line, which tops out at $399. iPod prices need to drop before iPad prices do. I think that iPad prices will be locked in place for at least another generation of tablets, if not longer. Of course being wrong in this instance would be nice!

I think Apple’s will cut the price by $100. Maybe not the 2 but probably for the next generation one.

I couldn’t agree more. Having spent time on android tablets, there’s really no comparison. The apps are honestly the biggest thing for me. The best games (esp Kids games) are on the ipad. Android apps are still pretty far behind.

Yeah. Apple following advice from stock analysts is basically the last thing they want to do. Sure, consider the advice from smart people who follow them religiously, maybe. Follow advice from stock analysts who look at Apple financials once a month and basically have no understanding of Apple’s reasons for doing what they do? They’d be out of business pretty quick.
