I still don’t understand – what was so good about iPad 2 or did I miss it? Except the thin look which I don’t care what’s really good about it? Subpar camera, weak processor, 256 MB RAM!!! (my phone has twice than that!!!) do I need to say more?

Bollocks.

1. Apple make peanuts with the App store compared to their profits from hardware.
2. Google make most of their revenue from ads.
3. Google don’t have to find anything, they aren’t selling tablets.
4. Apple lower their profits for the iPad specifically because they want to make a killing and profit from the economy of scale.
5. Other hardware companies are just feeling their way around. They do not care yet about market share, because they’re in it for the money, not for glory. They will profit from the economy of scope, since on the whole Android will have a larger market share, albeit split between the manufacturers.

It’s not that Motorola or Samsung are greedy. Apple can take lower margins on their devices thanks to the 30% cut they get from iTunes and the App Store. None of the android device makers have that steady, post sale revenue. I think Google will have to find some way to share ad/app revenue with manufactures so that they can lower initial prices AND continue to support new OS updates for devices.

Hope they include SD/HDMI and USB ports. Don’t care if they make it thinner and lighter, I just want more functionality out of it.

This is good news. Tablets should go down in price to match at least netbooks, but this conclusion is not straightforward because of the different form factor. With the iPad 2 pressing down prices it is much more obvious that Samsung, Motorola and others are too greedy.
