Seeing how Apple fanatics can't think for themselves, willingly going along with anything the company does (even to their own detriment), I bet many people have driven off a cliff, into the ocean or into a wall just like Maps told them to.

I would also not be surprised if additional Apple drivers died in car accidents because they could not call 911 after their glass screens shattered from being tossed around during a collision. Having a Apple purposely design its screens to easily break on devices (which might be needed in an emergency) simply as a way to make money off of overpriced repairs is irresponsible. People's lives depend on their phones.

Most importantly, the tiny screens on the iPhones are dangerous!! And yes, that includes the iPhone 5 since the screen is not 'bigger', just longer (which means it is no easier to type on in portrait mode/single hand operation).
Most people text and drive even if they know its dangerous. Having such a small screen only makes it harder to read and type on the phone, which I am sure causes more accidents.

Combine that with terrible navigation and you got a recipe for disaster that probably accounts for thousands of motor vehicle deaths every month.

Then again iPhone users tend to be pretty brain-dead to begin with, so perhaps it is just killing a legion of mindless Apple zombie hipsters. Scary!

I saw the offer to "Upgrade to iOS6" in my Settings App. yesterday on my iPhone4s.
I've also seen the problems with the Apple Maps reported online prior to all of this. I also got a notification from one of my weather apps "Hi-Def Radar", which uses Google maps on the 'NOAA Hi-Def Radar App v1.1' ((which is great BTW))...it stated that there might be some 'issues' with the Apple map underlying the radar grids for those using iOS6 and they were working on it.
Easy, I ignored the update.... for now....

I love my iPhone (even though it's just a 4). I love most of iOS 6. I HATE the maps! Almost regret updating. Don't care about transit maps and info here in Raleigh is generally accurate (so far). Don't like that Apple Maps don't zoom in as well as Google's, but I HATE that now my 3rd party apps don't have Satellite View! Yelp, Trulia, Gas Buddy, etc. Even when Google Maps becomes available again, these other maps won't be allowed to pull map data from Google, so I'm stuck. Aarghh!

Not likely of interest anywhere other than tech blogs. The iPhone 4 antenna thing related to the most basic of smartphone uses -- making calls, which had more relevance with the general consumer. It wasn't like you could use a different antenna.

Maps is different. It'll eventually be great, and for now it's fine. Unlike the antenna issues with the iPhone 4, there are alternatives. Google's own web version of their maps works very well, includes their comprehensive search database and even has the transit info now missing from Apple's Maps. Eventually they'll launch an iOS app. The UI of Apple's turn-by-turn directions has been implemented extremely well, even if the POI data could use a little work. It'll only get better.

The state of Apple's Maps is something tech blogs should welcome as writing about it will help to bring eyeballs-to-ads... The general consumer won't care as is evidenced by the record setting pre-orders and long lines outside Apples stores well before iPhone launch.

Keyword: whatever... ;-)

I bought my Iphone 4 for around $300 new from at&t just becuase I knew about the endless features. Now that I upgraded to iOS 6 i got about 1/4 of the features no siri, and to top it of downgraded maps ! Apple needs to do a lot more reasearch and testing before they throw out a phone just for competion. Apparently these days conpetition is more important than the customer. When my plan is up i'm going to Samsung.

One of the main reasons to buy a Smartphone are the AGPS mapping apps and to have such an inferior service when Google is better and Nokia's maps even better...then there will be customers like me who will switch. Nokia looks even better and I don't have to buy a rubber case for the Lumia 920.
The vast majority of reviewers did not notice and have not revised their reviews of iOS6. Clearly they do not use this new version.
I have grown to despise Apple Inc, it's dongles all the way from retina MacBooks to iphones...what a mess.

This Apple Computer fan is now thoroughly pissed off at Apple Inc., another arrogant debacle. Even in the States they have, excuse the pun, thrown us under the subway train or bus by dumping Google and giving us an inferior product.
This makes my upgrade to a Nokia Lumia all the easier as their own mapping App rivals and exceeds Google maps.
Yet, the way Apple crazies howl in protest you'd think Apple has saved us from public transport..and you should use a 3rd party app and be grateful. This time Less is really Less.

This arrogance towards loyal customers is not new. Remember the sudden price cut for the first iPhone and those who did not use a Green colored credit card had to put up with an iTunes voucher? Remember the iPhone 4 and Apple insisting we were holding our phone wrong followed by some cheap free rubber band offering when most had to buy a full rubber case for our superior designed hardware.

A good designer flashing his wares does not demand punters to put a rubber on;)

And iOS is not aging well. Compared to Android it's creaking and Windows 8 X looks an even better bet..both will take away early adopters and content creators. The map debacle shows up Apple as just another greedy company with an overpaid board and CEO. So, why not try W8X?

the iStink reaks so bad on this comment! Atleast acknowledge that the maps app is a shit product! Wow, you fanboys are stupid to death! But I understand that are you going through some grief and you are still in the denial stage 'hence it's fine and no problem with it'.
Then anger will kick in, then bargain, then depression and finally acceptance that iPhones have become shit!

Regarding Maps and Clock:
There is room for improvement.

More like work in progress.
Would expected a more thought through App.

Apple fans lived without turn-by-turn for ages... They will simply put their head down and live with this one too...

Polished aluminium body and app transition animation are the most important feature of a phone for some, everything else is secondary :-)

Maps is terrible. No more integrated mass transit? That's annoying for people living in cities (like me) but the social/environmental implications are worse. Apple adds turn by turn directions for drivers, while taking away mass transit directions? Second, the data is all off. It says there's a gas station across from my work, but there is not. And last, this whole thing feels more like the way Microsoft used to design software, putting its own strategic interests ahead of the user experience. I understand the Apple-Google rivalry, but Apple has made the user pay. It took away Google Maps, which worked very well, and replaced it with something that in simply inferior. Flyover is cool, but streetview is more useful.

The update is great -- the maps app is much sleeker, but, it'll take quite some time before the data under the hood can compare to what was in the Google version -- the ultimate in 'Yellow-Pages'

Turn-by-turn is excellent, very intuitive in use -- makes my previous favorite, Navigon, look like an abacus. I'll still keep it around though for those times I need turn-by-turn in areas without data connectivity.

I noticed the web-based Google Maps has integrated transit info for those times I need it. Wish you could click an address in a Google search and have it open in the new Apple Maps instead of the web-based Google Maps.

It'll improve quickly as I'm sure Apple is pouring resources into rapidly improving their map search data...
