I'm glad Apple is doing this, those two were clearly the two biggest weaknesses of iOS compared to Android, and those things are getting alleviated, so iOS users can only rejoice I guess. But for me i'll stick with my Desire HD thanks very much :).

Let me guess - they will make it a long-press of the home button. Unless that currently does something else... Task switching? If that, then they could combine the two, one screen for both... Since they only have one button and a drop down menu would be too Android like. If they add widgets and drop down notifications, they'd be Android with a different style and a few limitations (no keyboard changing, limited customization)...

Apple didn't invent any of that either... Multitouch was first implemented (though crudely) in 1982 at the University of Toronto (not a phone, but the concept of controlling/inputting data into a computer using a touch surface allowing for multiple points). Pinch to zoom is a gesture, not an invention. Next I'll patent flipping someone the bird... Visual voicemail existed in 1993 (in a crude form, on ISDN modems not cell phones). Apple was sued originally because of their use of visual voicemail ;) App store business model is a bit ridiculous to patent - like patenting the idea of selling products in a store or web site. That's all Apple's app store is - a "web site" that is only browsed through iTunes or iOS devices. Accelerometer and proximity sensor were invented long before iOS.

So how is Android just copying Apple where Apple hasn't just put together technologies that already existed into a new form? Apple isn't really that innovative - most of their tech is slightly behind cutting edge, but refined and polished up a bit to be usable/enjoyable by the masses. Tablets existed long before the iPad (which they claim is "revolutionary") but they were a) too large and b) ran Windows or other full OSes. Apple polished up an existing concept by slimming the iPad down and throwing the iPhone OS on it (with a few tiny changes). Android is actually ahead of Apple in that regard, since their tablet OS is more different from their phone OS than Apple's is... (though arguably less polished and intuitive - it's more suitable for geeks and less for general consumers).

Why is it that you fantards automatically assume everyone who points out a positive fact about iOS or a negative fact about Android has to be an Apply fanboy? I guess the truth hurts, so your weak ass comeback is to call someone a sheep or iTard or fanboy. When you want to argue facts, come on back into the discussion, otherwise GTFO.

Virtually every feature on a phone or tablet was originally done somewhere else first. Only an idiot would try to claim something their phone does was "innovated" by them.

And I suppose you're actually stupid enough to believe that Android invented widgets? How can Apple copy Android when Android itself is a copy of so many other ideas? Widegts have been around long before Android ever appeared on the market. As have notifications.

Funny over the years to see Apple haters complain the iPhone doesn't have this or doesn't do that. Then Apple adds new features and the haters change their tune from "iPhone doesn't have xxxxx" to "Apple copied xxxx".

Ok, I'm just a "normal" iPhone 4 user and it bugs the hell out of me that I can't customize the home screens with widgets and stuff. Had a Desire before and liked it's customizability better and how it fitted in my palm but the iPhone's screen and camera was a deal breaker at the time. If iOS 5 won't include widgets then I'm going back to an Android handset, Sensation or GSII

But I agree with the standard of the UI on Android, Google needs to have better quality control on widgets and apps
