Intel ULV processors slimmed down for ultraportables

Intel are planning a new pair of ultra-low voltage processors that will be specially shaved down for ultraportable notebooks, according to the latest leaked reports.  The Core 2 Duo SU9600 and Core 2 Solo SU3500 will have core speeds of 1.6GHz and 1.4GHz respectively.

The two new CPUs will slot into Intel's recently-tipped CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) product range, which already includes the SU9400, SU9300, SU3300 and Celeron 723 processors.  According to the industry sources, Intel will then tier the CULV range into three levels, comprising Celeron entry-level processors, followed by single-core chips, and finally dual-core performance CPUs.

The Intel Core 2 Duo SU9600 is expected to be priced at $289 in thousand-chip quantities.  Meanwhile the Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor will come in just a little cheaper, at $262 in thousand-chip quantities.  The new CULV chips are expected to launch by the end of March 2009.
