SSDs advantages over traditional rotating media are reduced power consumption and not being susceptible to shock from movement. SSDs however seem to provide some with a false sense of security. With SSDs, if some of the memory chips fail there are situations where the data may not be recoverable so SSDs are just as important to always keep backed up as traditional hard disk drives.
