Intel’s roadmap has showed that the chipmaker is releasing 45nm Core 2 Duo mobile CPU based on “Penryn” platform in first quarter of 2008. Intel has not set model numbers on this line up yet. Penryn’s based Core 2 Duo mobile processors will be filling the gap between “Santa Rosa” and Intel’s upcoming platform called “Montevina”.

Two of the Core 2 Duo mobile based on Penryn will be targeted towards entry-level machine with clock speed at 2.1Ghz and 2.4Ghz and features 3MB of L2 cache. The other two are clocked at 2.5Ghz and 2.6Ghz with 6MB of L2 cache and targeted towards higher-end machines.

Intel also preps the “Extreme” edition of Penryn based Core 2 Duo mobile that will run at 2.8ghz and also features 6MB of L2 cache in additions to unlocked multiplier to allow better overclocking. All Penryn’s based Core 2 Duo mobile will run at 800Mhz frontside bus. As for Montevina, it will not arrive until second quarter of 2008.
