Instagram search supercharged with new Explore page

Instagram has introduced a revamped Explore page and improved search, enabling users to more easily find and explore content uploaded to the service. Instagram says these are "major updates", and will make it easier for users to find trending content, such as videos of popular recent events. The trends show up in real time, but there are also curated collections based on topic, making it easier to explore what is on the service and narrow down content based on interest.

The curated trends show up as category tiles, with some offerings including things like "Ancient Ruins" and "Extreme Athletes". Places that are trending are another example, and are based on popular hashtags. The new Explore page, at least initially, will only be available to users in the United States. Instagram suggests that in the future it will roll out elsewhere, however.

Search, meanwhile, has been improved "dramatically", says Instagram, to make it easier to find whatever you're looking for. This includes the addition of "Places Search", which allows users to make searches based on places. If you want to see images from a particular park or city, for example, this makes it easier.

In addition, there's also "Top Search" for searching for something in tags, people, and places at the same time. You'll need to update to the latest version of the mobile app, of course, to see the features.
