Imation unveils Pro WX wireless external USB hard drive

There are hoards of external hard drives on the market that connect to your computer via USB. This is far form a new product category. Imation has announced a new external hard drive that connects via USB that does have something new. The Pro WX external hard drive is the world's first external USB derive to use wireless USB technology.

Imation claims that the drive offers fast data transfer speeds and it has 1.5TB of storage space. The Pro WX uses a 3.5-inch form factor and has a Wireless USB data transfer rate of up to 15MBs/second. That means that the drive can back up the data from an average CD in 50 seconds.

The wireless range is 30 feet from the connected computer and uses what Imation calls a one-to-one connection to prevent the signal from being intercepted. The drive works with both Mac and Windows computers and is available now for $449.99.
