Why? Well because I grew out of Nintendo’s target audience.

That’s why you won’t see me bitch about having crap games with crap controls on a crap console with crappy resolution. My opinions make me chose products that satisfy me.

This way I’m not consuming stuff that does not fit what I like, AND WRITE LOUSY ARTICLES ABOUT IT.

But what ever you do. STFU whining like a bitch about it and get on and do something useful with you life.

Nintendo was years ahead of everyone in motion controlled gaming (and still is if you ask me). They hit the nail on the head with the Wii… One of if not the biggest changes in the industry and now you are saying they are resistant to change ?

HD is the only thing Nintendo has been hesitant (not resistant) to do… That has nothing to do with controls…

I think first person shooters are boring anymore… Too many companies release their games in first person and it is like playing the same games over and over. Third person games offer more versatility to what can be done in the game. I like Nintendo’s new Metroid game, Other M and how it combines first and third person point of view and I think more games should follow this perspective…

Nintendo’s overly saturated statistics may tell a different story, but if they wish to remain competitive, they’ve got big changes to make.

On the other hand, I have to admit that I haven’t really been impressed by that many Nintendo games of late. I like the Wii, but at the same time I think Nintendo was putting out a higher number of quality titles in the years before they introduced the Wii. I’m not saying that’s the reason, but that does seem to be the time line.

And to other commenters, saying things like, “you’re wrong because these games sold well” is a really lame argument.

What? Having a complaint means you don’t like the system/game?

Wiiware has taken some stick in the past but now developers are really starting to push the quality of games for the service.

This year has been great with titles like ‘Rage of the Gladiator’ ‘Jett Rocket’ and ‘Pearl Harbor Trilogy”, and with the upcoming ‘Fast Racing League’ and ‘Bomberman 2′ I think Wiiware is finally coming up with the goods.

Couldn’t care less about Mario personally, I’d rather fund the independents.

And those new young gamers are right now playing games and enyoing life, not making articles about their personal opinion that doesn’t matter to anyone, and bitching about how Mario is still jumping on turtles like a dumb, instead of toasting’em to hell with an Ak-47 and grenades.

I wish all of us could be like’em and be playing whatever we like, instead of posting in the internet.

Comparing SM64 and SMG is only somewhat different. SMG is (in my opinion) a better game on every objective level. Better graphics, sound, level design, etc. HOWEVER… SM64 was much more advanced *for its time* than SMG. SM64 Was most people’s introduction to polygon-based 3D gaming, and is thus remembered more fondly and as more historically significant than SMG ever will be.

Basically, I think the younger generation (well, the ones who don’t simply stick to Halo) will appreciate games like SMG, DKCR, and others the same way us older folk regard the old school NES / SNES and even N64 classics.

I’m playing videogames for about 20 years and I’m not tired of playing Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Zelda, etc.
SMG IS an excellent game; they know how to push Wii to it’s visual limits, making gorgeous scenarios and characters.

I think the controls fit perfectly in game needs… So I can’t agree with you, but I know there’s a lot of people tired of the same characters, stories, etc.

BUT, being tired doesn’t mean that the games are terrible or Nintendo is wrong, you just changed your mind about it.

With that said, Nintendo is the best game company on planet earth! They have been around the longest and understands what a MAJORITY of people enjoy with their games. Creativity is at the front of that line and Nintendo delivers that in spades. So what they feature many of the most BELOVED characters of all-time? They know which characters will SELL this creativity and each new game in the franchise feels NEW!

I’m about to play DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS naow! It’s more fun than every game NOT made by Nintendo this year!

I just thought his complaints were vague, and not expressed very well.

CoffeewithGames, while I see where you are coming from, every criticism does not require a solution. If the author knew what Nintendo needed specifically to do to get back on track, that would be miraculous. Creating revolutionary games, something Nintendo must do to get back on track, will take a great deal of effort on Nintendo’s part. Ultimately, this is something that Nintendo will benefit from, so it is their responsibility to find the necessary solution, not the author’s.

Writing opinion pieces is fine, but not stating how you wish “…Nintendo would grow up…” makes this just a complaint piece, with no solution.

According to the “professional” game reviews, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the best Nintendo Wii game released in 2010, and the second best game on the system; and the third best game of all time.

You didn’t even state what you didn’t like about the Wii Remote controls, just, “…their use of the Wii Remote leaves much to be desired.”
Stating WHAT you specifically didn’t like, would have given the readers more information, and formed a better overall opinion to agree or not agree with. The one given is just extremely vague, and needs more explaining to actually make sense…unless you are just complaining to complain.
