IBM and Samsung Electronics tie up with patent cross-license agreement

IBM and Samsung Electronics are a couple of the largest companies in the electronics world and between the two of them they hold a plethora of piƱata patents. The two tech companies have announced that they have signed a patent cross license agreement that will see them allowing each other to use their patents.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed and exactly what patent types the agreement covers isn't announced either. The official statement from IBM notes that the two firms have a range of patents for mobile communications, semiconductors, and software among other things.

"This licensing agreement will help both companies expedite innovation and achieve business growth by providing each company access to the other's patents for basic technologies," said Dr. Seungho Ahn, Executive Vice President and Head of the IP Center, Samsung Electronics. "We also hope the agreement will open new opportunities for wider collaboration between two of the leading innovators in the technology industry."
