The guy is a troll. This isn’t the first time he’s written this exact same article trashing Kinect.

Who cares that he doesn’t like casual motion gaming? Clearly he is in the minority given the success of both Wii and Kinect. Kinect games are selling really well, the user reviews for Kinect games at Amazon are outstanding, the fact that hardcore gamers aren’t enamored with Kinect is irrelevant. Why constantly moan about something that was never designed for you not having games designed for you?

After 4 years of owning a Wii is he really surprised that Kinect works best when you have a party or a group of people to share the experience with? Who did not expect that going in? I’m sorry you just can’t pretend to be this clueless. Nearly all of the games announced and released for Kinect had a direct corollary on the Wii. Microsoft is trying very hard to replicate the success of the Wii because it has been one of the biggest successes in the history of the game industry. Why begrudge them for it? There are still plenty of excellent hardcore single-player loner games for the Xbox 360 (on disc, on XBLA, & on Indie Games). Not sure you can say the same for Wii and that’s probably the reason why Xbox 360 has been the top selling game console for the past year now.

I like to think that the “what else are you going to do with a Kenect?” is the question of the product. I like it as a concept and have tried to report my findings, not to amusement of some. Still I think there should be a place for field reports. I also welcome less of the “hate” and more of the “what’s can we do with this in the future”. I find one potentially productive, the other Chimp masturbation.

I think allot of people had unrealistic concepts of how the Kinect would work before they purchased it, not till actually owning and experiencing it did they realize it’s limitations. I work with a guy that bought into the hype, he had thought it would replace his controller for every game out their, oh boy he was wrong, I don’t here him bragging about it anymore, let alone even mention he owns one.

I like how people complain about the cost of new tech but as soon as new tech comes out, people rush out, cash in fist.
Motion controls is just a way for MS and SONY to prolong their current hardware life, but what I really want now is better hardware a new platform to replace the old dated tech. That’s all I read all day, people complaining about current hardware limitations.

Part of the reason has been the software draught for the Kinect. There haven’t been the FLOOD of shovelware that we’ve seen on the Wii or the DS, but the few games that has come out for it in the space between launch and now, hasen’t been much more than broken minigame collections…. and honestly… what else are you going to do with a Kinect? Would you really play 8 hours of the next Halo game standing up with your arms outstretched? I sure don’t….

If you were not a believer in motion gaming after the Wii, then why the hell did you buy a Kinect and PS3 Move? Just to write these trolling articles every other week?

If you want strict attention, please let at mine previous rant, I’m reporting what I have seen. I don’t know if the kinect hardware is really good or not, as the games I’ve tried so far are not very precise in control. I feel a little more positive to see MS still working on the SDK.

Stop packing it away. People generally don’t like to have to assemble their entertainment before using it. My Kinect sits there, ready for Kinectimals and Dance Central – or when I’m too lazy to find the controller to watch a DVD.

I found you hard to follow as a tech writer. First you indicate that the prospect of Apple television bores you, and then it’s a game changer. And the strong bias towards Sony – who seem to repeatedly punch fans and early adopters in the goolies – bothers me.

I have similar thoughts having bought the game early (“cutting edge” is the name for a reason). I think it is too early to count the Kinect out. I think the last part of the article is where I like to think we are going. I also have to say that some of the games are just too flawed to really be able to get into i.e. “brain” game controls are so poor that game control is very affected. The same can be said of the new “ring toss” game that again has such lousy controls that it is nearly unplayable!

Be assured, it’s ALL him. And even if you just skimmed the headlines of 10 of his past articles, a clear picture starts to form. He is peddling the same crap that Michael Arrington and Om Malik do at TC and GigaOm. He’s just trolling his audience. Plain and simple. Why? Pageviews.

I stopped reading those blogs especially because of that and if Slash is gonna do that too, there are other places we can go for real tech journalism. I’ll also point out that THOSE sites at least broke exclusive stories, had original analysis, and several subsections for the tech side, the business side, and everything in between on the industry. Slash has none of that so therefore my tolerance for this (and I assume many other people’s as well) is very low.
