What the hell are you smoking? In no way does Apple come within a million light years of 26%, much less 40% of the PC market you idiot. Try 6%! Windows dominates the PC market with 90% market share, give or take a point either way. Apple is hovering around 6-7% at best, and has never been able to gain anymore.

The iPad is not a PC, and it's not the same market. Good God what a dumbass.

Don I'm totally with you on this one. Whatever Apple produce it will be a massive game changer & the market will have no choice but to follow suit playing catch up as with any other Apple product. Expect ease of use & VERY easy internet access at the very least. User friendliness will as usual be top of Apple's list.
Have you ever tried to use the internet on ANY of these so-called Smart TV's ? Awful !

You are an idiot...go reread my post, I am in no way supporting an Apple TV and I dont think TV's are hard to operate or a full fledged home theater with or without a universal remote. I sold Hi-Fi for 15 years...got loooots of practice.

My point, Mr. Dumbass, is that Apple customers are used to easy to operate electronics and therefore are dumbed down with most goods. Apple CAN NOT support all the goods in the market to make their Apple TV work as easy as the rest of the goods in the apple ecosystem. Therefore apple tv will fail and is an ignorant idea.

Samsung make the best panels. Have done for years. At best Apple will rebrand Samsungs stuff, again.

I'll soon be giving my iPhone 4 to my gf, and getting an Android, most likely the Samsung Note when it's released in the uk. After years of iPhones, I've grown bored of the Apple lockdown on the software, and bored of jailbreaking.

Sure i saw a recent article saying there are more Android using devices than iOS. An iPhone is the cool thing to have. Even when they were completely subpar to other phones around.

While I do love my iPad, my last iPhone was the 3GS because I got tired of having to upgrade at a premium every freaking year just to get modern specs/features in a phone. I switched to Android and have enjoyed two major (free) updates on my phone that have dramatically improved its functionality along with a handful of 3rd party apps that allowed me to make my phone work just how I like it. No handset upgrade required.

The concern I have with an Apple TV: they're going to make it sweet and leave out a few features for three upgrades that come out over five years. If I wait another six months after Apple's release, I'll have ALL of the features I wanted in a TV, not just the ones I was going to get waiting for 5 years from Apple and I'll still save 20-40% from what Apple wants to charge.

I'm no Apple-hater or M$-/Google-/whatever-fanboy: I'm just a consumer who is willing to pay for features not a label. I expect most people who are not Apple marketing chumps (or Apple design fanatics, though I clump you in a much better category than the chumps) will simply evaluate the Apple TV for what it is in features/function and wait to see what else comes out later that year in reply. Bang for buck is still a big seller in America...

TV is really hard to operate...you have to push the one button to make it come on. Then you have to press the channel button up OR down. Or type the number of the channel you want. And sometimes you have to press the volume button up OR down. God, I am getting all sweaty and stressed out just thinking about it.

Hard. Ohhh, don't make me press the Input button for my DVD player or game console, I cannot handle it. If only I could talk to my TV and have it misinterpret my desires...and if only that TV was way overpriced and lacking in key features that the next version of this expensive TV might have. And if only I didn't have to choose from so many channels and programs, if someone would just give me 3 or 4 channels and no options...

You should buy a time machine. You can go back to the 80s - all you had to do was put your TV on channel 3 to use your VCR. The VCR that was always flashing '12:00' because you could not read English and push a few buttons a few times. You didn't have many channels and even cable sucked. Just what you are looking for.

Decades? You can keep something for decades, but will you still be using it? Oh, sure you might turn it on its back and use it for a coffee table. You might put it out in the yard and hang clothes on it to dry. Or you might drill a hole in it and make sweet love to it down by the fire.

Even if there isn't some new super hi-def in 6 years the chances are pretty good that your TV will be broken before the first decade is up. Not bashing Samsung specifically - I have owned a few of their products and they were fine. But my monitor only lasted about 3 years. Which is pretty standard.

All of this Made in China stuff is not made to last.

YAWN...even Michael Dell said apple should close up shop and return the money to the apple investors years ago when apple was about to go bankrupt. And now look at apple, It's one of the most valued companies in the world!

So let me see.... Since Micheal Dell was the CEO of DELL Computers and he was obvious wrong about apple, I wonder who are you to say anything bad about apple? Do you even own anything apple?

You were saying the same doubts when the iPhone came out right? Who would want an over priced phone from apple when the real players (motorola) are selling phones??

And look where we are today since the iPhone came out? You need to thank apple or otherwise you will still using a flip phone from Motorola.

only good iPhones were the first generation and the 3G s, at the time even the 3G s was inferior to most phones on the market such as the HD2 with higher pixel camera, screen resolution and power, only thing iPhones have in the market are the Market and the thought of you looking legit with an iProduct, the iPhones have always cost double of most smartphones, when in fact Apple is far late in the market, the Atrix pulling a dual core almost a year from now whipped all phones away, the features on most phones kill the iPhone, iPhone 4S barely came out with 1080p and a dual core processor, they are a year late in the market, Macs carry what a dual core 2.4ghz processor with minimal HDD space and mid range RAM, for the price of a hard 1200$, when you look in the PC market, and they carry 6core Processors, maximum carrying capacity of pretty much everything, non the less TV's, perhaps itll be inovated and hightech but again im guessing its going to be a little to late, now that TV's carry internet browsing and wifi, a year a half from now an apple TV will come out at lets say 2000$ when the competing market will be blowing away with its cheap pricing and still having better tech then apple, Apple is like the Rich Prep of the world, only "cool" people like them only "rich" people can afford it, Apple plainly sucks when u look at it

First of all, an ipad does not do what a PC can do, it is a toy, not a tool.

Secondly, iphone sells well because the sale calculations account for all iphones sold, as if they are a single unit, do that with android and it smokes apple like apple does not exist.

Apple is purchased mostly by people who are easily brain washed by advertising and into buying items that makes them think they are now 'cool'.

Google with the purchase of Motorola Mobile division has more phone patents then Apple, and once MS starts wanting their money from all the people that leech their patents, apple will be out of business.

Apple is already thinking of dumping the mac pro, people are wising up...because PC's are less expensive and can do just as much and people only buy apple products they can show off to the other appletards at starbucks.

Apple is not a manufacturer, have no factories and must rely on it's competitors for all it's parts. They are a REPACKAGER of everyone else's technology and can't really innovate in such a overly congested market. Where are they going to get their screens? Guaranteed, they first and foremost be have parts from South Korea and either LG or Samsung. Samsung owns the market and the only real competitor they have is either LG or Sony and they supply screens to Sony!

In America their biggest competition is in the low end market against Vizio. Vizio is one of the few that can compete and their TV's are made in China with lots defects and problems. But they're CHEAP... so they well here. Apple would be foolish to get into low end market and how can could they compete in the high end market against established Brands? It wouldn't be easy and for a company that simply repackages parts in everything they sell Apple TV's would sell about as well as AppleTV which is..... remember just a hobby for Apple anyway.

What are they going to do? Simply re-brand a Samsung TV like they did Sony for their old monitors. I don't think that's going to help them crack into a market that is struggling with too much competition. Smartphone market was one thing, but it had and still has a growing market with space to compete in. TV's do NOT!!! ....AppleTV and any repackaged or simply rebranded TV will just be another Newton Failure!!!

Apple has 26% marketshare of the PC market now... and that's only if you don' count iPads. If you do, then its more like %40 in the USA.

The iPhone has dominated the cellphone market since it came out. The number one and two best selling smartphones are both iPhones.

Lots of android crap out there but it isn't selling. Unless by "dominated" you mean "had more models".... Apple takes more than %56 of the profits in the smartphone industry....androids often sell at a loss.

And android won't' be around at all in a few years once the courts protect Apple's patents.

Buy an Apple TV without seeing it first just because it looks good? There is so much wrong with this that it boggles the mind. You say that you'll do this because you know they'll come out with something intended to dominate the market, as they "always do". The problem is that you've deluded yourself into a distorded reality.
Apple always dominates markets only if you define the scope of the markets to include only Apple products. Apple has dominated the Mac market because they made it proprietary, so only Apple could make them. On the other hand they have never dominated the PC market. They've only ever really had up 2% - 10% market share.
No one can question that the iPhone has been successful, but it has never dominated the cell phone market. One could argue that it once dominated the smart phone market, but that isn't true anymore.
Certainly Apple has always been inovative, but it is usually in ways to convince people to pay a premium on something because it is "cool". We bought iPods and locked ourselves into paying Apple as a middleman on music, not because it was the only way to download music, but because iPods were cool, and iTunes was cool. Was it new technology? Not really. But it did have cool ads.
I may buy an Apple TV, but I'm sure as heck not going to do it without seeing some compelling reason. I don't really care what others think about me or my TV. I don't buy a TV for looks, and to me the Apple app store is simply no longer cool.

Okay, an Apple TV would most likely be awesome! But come on, how can any well-informed consumer say they'll buy a product sight unseen? Worse than that actually, there are no details on features, size, specs, or price point. We don't even no if it is in R&D for certain.

All that said, I'm optimistic, and hope that they are developing a great TV, with features no one else has yet, that they can sell at a reasonable price. But I would never say I would buy one without seeing it just because of the brand name.

You both have credible arguments. What people DO tend to forget or not even know as a matter of fact is the exceptional customer service and the overall experience Apple provides. How many mobile phone companies can you go to and get your handset replaced if it has any problems? without filling out any forms, queuing up on the phone etc??? NONE! With Apple, all their products can be taken to an apple store and exchanged/repaired ANYWHERE in the world! Samsung??? LG??? Cheap yes, quality? No WAY! Panasonic currently produces the best television sets, but they are more pricier than Samsung and LG. Sony is just way too expensive and the worst value for money.
Yes, most of the tech Apple incorporates in its products already exists...but NOONE knows about it! Apple is good at marketing its products, but even better at making existing technologies integrate in real life with a simplicity and ease that the competition only wishes it could!
I am an Apple fanboy, but not because of all the hype; because I have come to trust their products in areas where all others have failed miserably. I owned the first generation iPod when noone knew what an iPod was...so yes I can say from experience that Apple makes SOME of the best and the most simplest to use gadgets in the world. Why is it that all other companies have to play catch-up whenever a new Apple device arrives? The tech already exists, so why can't others do it better and more simpler than Apple?

I agree. I tried a bunch of streaming media things (Amazon, Hulu, Roku boxes, etc.) trying to ditch cable and finally decided to ditch cable when I got my second generation "Apple TV". But its connected to some generic HDTV with crappy audio, Apple's hardware would be so much nicer. And I would have a volume control on the Apple remote, hopefully. Its nota closed system more than anything of the other various media services. They have Netflix and other services, and you can stream whatever you want from the iPhone. So if you include the AirPlay feature from iOS devices, Apple TV already has way more content than Roku boxes. I do not know much about google TV, although I heard it has porn, which is gross.
