Actually, the cost of getting the samples was nil – they were a free perk that came with the huge expense of a lunar expedition. The expense was to achieve other outcomes – which it did very well, and outcomes that can never be misplaced.

Wow, sounds like someone has their tin-foil had on to tight. Maybe I’m reading to much into it, but from the sounds of @Tomsmith1956 ‘s post, he was physically there to watch an Apollo launch. Go ahead and have one of your people take a spectographic analysis of one of the rocks. See what they say.

i agree(2)! after watching videos trying to prove that moon landing was a big lie, i agree that they never went to moon and they are afraid …
i just cant understand if they could travel and land there, why they didn’t do that again or build a space station there, or simply a telescope, i’m sure telescopes(x-ray, microwaves, visible light, infrared and so on) out of atmosphere and not orbiting (i mean fix to a ground) have so many benefits!

Having watched an Apollo launch, until the craft was completely out of sight and well on it’s way, and having an interest in all things exploratory, I am completely sadened by the prospect that there are still people who believe mans farthest accomplishment is a hoax, fake rocks indeed, you should turn off your video games and educate yourselves, it also helps to know that there are people smarter than yourself, just because you can’t concieve how it’s done, don’t think for a minute that it can’t, it was!

I don’t care in the least. They’re stupid rocks and we know where to get more if we need them. The only thing more sad than the outrage at their having gone missing is the significance attached to them by the people who ‘stole’ them. They’re rocks, people; cosmic spitballs. You can’t eat them or burn them to stay warm. What’s the difference between these rocks and ones found in your back yard, the ones that get spun out by your lawnmower? Space exploration was supposed to impart a wider sense of perspective, instead the very people involved in it are squabbling over pebbles. I wouldn’t trade a slice of bread for one.

Two possibilities.

(1) – Money – The government wants the money from the rocks the same way they stole that 800 pound tuna from that guy with a tuna license except he used a net instead of reel.

(2) – They never went to the moon and they are afraid that since analytical instruments are so cheap and so pervasive these days, someone is going to do a spectrographic analysis of the “moon” rocks and will discover they came from Arizona.

No one is going to go after the government for this. There is quite the double standard when it comes to the government and the public. The women gets in trouble for trying to sell the rocks but no one will be prosecuted for losing rocks or misplacing them. It’s the same with Eric Holder and the guns in Mexico. The public is jailed for smuggling guns but the most that will happen in the government sector is MAYBE someone loses their job… Again, who watches the watchers?

These samples were obtained from the Financial funding of our Government, in other words, the tax dollars of the US citizen. Looks to me that the citizens of the US own these specimens, not the Government.

Considering the enormus cost to get these samples in the first place (both in human lives and in tax dollars), these samples should all be recovered and those accountable for the lack of security and proper record keeping should be prosecuted. We all loose when our nation’s investments are frittered away by uncaring and unthinking individuals and organizations who have no thought of the value of objects like these. My first thought is how many other “National Treasures” are being “lost, mis-placed, or loaned” never to be seen again. This is criminal and every one of us should be enraged. Find the guilty parties and make strong examples of them!

Also, who in the G.A.O. was responsible to oversee this in the first place!
