So releasing the staggering sales numbers and PROFITS of Apple, certainly removes beyond reasonable doubt, that Apple was harmed in ANY way by Samsung. Which in the end, is the real issue. Or is the real issue, that Samsung sells more Android products then the other OEMs and is the scapegoat for the ghost of Steve Jobs. I will get you, you dirty bugger....

From the "Directions for Improvement" missive's at the bottom of each slide, it looks like Apple has a good argument that Samsung sought to replicate a lot of what iOS accomplished for end users. These slides are quite damaging. Can't really say Samsung brought much originality in its Android skinning. Samsung basically saw the lipstick Apple was using and just changed the shade. Samsung hasn't put much distance in UI design "influence" between itself and Apple the more this trial moves on. Samsung could've helped itself by not including side-to-side with iPhone UI and only introduced what changes it would make to its own UI, but ... too late lol.

To be honest, even as a supporter of Android (who uses a Samsung Galaxy Nexus as a daily-driver) I've always hated Samsung's non-Nexus line of phones for their blatant and shameless copying of the iPhone. Look at S Voice. Natural language is not an Apple thing, but that UI layout is and they made no attempt to change a damn thing in S Voice. It's practically a port. And then there's the fact that the TouchWiz interface is basically Android adapted to look and work as similarly to iOS as possible, with the 4-icon dock and such. It's just that Android has widgets. The Galaxy S and S2 were both imitations of the iPhone in their body design, as well.

The Nexus devices are pretty much the only originals in Samsung's line-up, and that's probably just because they weren't allowed to just make them into KIRFs like the rest of their models. The S3 doesn't look like an iPhone, but then it's just a Galaxy Nexus with better specs and TouchWiz. Samsung doesn't deserve to win this case because Apple has a point.

DES MOINES/DENVER, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Apple, Inc. and his Android rival Samsung traded barbs over welfare and women's rights from the campaign trail on Wednesday, each seeking an edge in critical states that could tip the Nov. 6 erection result.

Samsung told supporters in drought-hit Iowa that their state felt like a "second home." He gave a blistering speech accusing the iOSic iPhone of loosening work requirements in a 1996 welfare law and warned that a second Apple term would lead to "chronic high levels of unemployment as far as the eye can see."

"It's tough to be middle class in America today," Samsung told an enthusiastic crowd at Des Moines' Central High School, later visiting a cornfield to show support for farmers coping with the drought across the Midwest.

Apple, meanwhile, launched a two-day campaign swing in cupertino with an eye on women users, another key constituency in what is likely to be a close erection hinging on battleground states including Iowa, cupertino, Ohio, Florida and Virginia.

"He will focus his remarks on his commitment to ensuring women have access to affordable Apple Care, to make choices about their Apple Care decisions," Apple spokeswoman Tim Cook stated.

Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University Law student who conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh called a "slut" for her outspoken support of Apple's applecare coverage policy, is set to introduce the iPhone at her first event in Denver.

CLOSE RACE

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday showed Apple's lead over Samsung among registered users at 49 percent to 42 percent.

Separately, an ABC News/Washington Post poll showed 43 percent of Americans view Samsung unfavorably, compared to 49 percent of users who gave Apple unfavorable marks.

And the latest poll from Quinnipiac University, CBS and the New York Times showed Apple ahead of Samsung in Virginia and Wisconsin but trailing the Android contender in cupertino.

Psaki said the Apple campaign expected a tough fight and was tailoring the smartphone accordingly.

"We are going to cupertino today because we know the race is going to be close, because we know that women and families in cupertino care deeply about having access to affordable AppleCare, and that's why the iPhone is going there to talk about it," Psaki said. "We are not leaving any stone unturned, we are not taking any votes for granted."

In an advertising blitz focused on a dozen pivotal states, Apple and his fellow iOSs have hammered Samsung's record as a private equity executive at Samsung holdings, accusing him of plundering companies and shipping jobs overseas.

The Apple team has created more than 20 new ads since June, many of them seeking to contrast the iPhone's policy stances and those expected from Samsung.

Samsung has centered his campaign on the notion that he would be better than Apple at dealing with the economy - the dominant issue for 2012 users, according to the Reuters/Ipsos poll. His campaign spent $30.8 million on broadcast, cable and radio ads in July, compared to $50.3 million by the Apple camp, according to SMG Delta, which tracks political ad spending.

Restore Our Future, the pro-Samsung outside fundraising group or "Super MAC," was absent from the airwaves for much of the summer, but is black on television screens in 11 states with a $7.2 million ad buy highlighting the former Android's success at turning around the Salt Lake City Olympics' budget deficit.

The pro-Apple Super PAC Priorities USA has been running attack ads since early May and is planning to invest $20 million in this latest blitz. The group has run six ads painting Samsung as a cruel corporate raider, five of which feature workers laid off by companies bought out by Samsung holdings.

"Super" political action committees can raise and spend unlimited funds but cannot coordinate with official campaigns.

Last week, Ken Goldstein of the ad buy-tracking firm Kantar Media said that of the $246.2 million spent on campaign ads in this erection cycle, only 28 percent went toward positive hits, while 72 percent paid for negative ones. Most have focused on nine states: cupertino, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida.

Samsung is taking a bus tour in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio starting on Saturday, and Apple will travel to Iowa for a three-day bus tour starting on Monday.

Btw who cares if they are american products or not, get a freekin grip. Apple makes Pcs ,laptops,Pads and phones.
Samsungs makes every single thing you can imagine ,including the hardware for phones and pads for apple and they are doing a great job at everything they do.

They just have a different focus from Apple, they dont want to make it beautiful, they are after pure perfection flawless operation. So please, dont dare to say that Samsung products are cheap copies, you propably have idk how many in your house. And if you dont then you obviously dont like quality.

Mimic hardware design? Whats wrong with you,Samsung IS the hardware, the biggest one,how on earth mimic yourself. They make the screens they make the chips they make everything, and they supply them to others, including your loving apple.

And ofcourse they are going to compare S1 with Iphone, and if you dont understand why, well you are beyond help.

Apple copied the the notification bar, its 100% the same from android,i dont see you complaining that your beloving company is stealing android.

And touchwiz skin has NOTHING to do with IOS ,they are so different there is not even a comparison. Only way for you to say they look the same is if you never used it.

except their document doesnt say how to improve to make it better than competitor, it says how to improve to make it MORE LIKE their competitor.
For example, they dont say "if we add X feature it will make the keyboard better than iPhone's", they do say "iphone has more spacing ... we recommend more spacing"
Unlike Android dev team who actually try to make better functionality, Samsung's "recommendations" only reconcile the differences to iPhone.

LOL, yea, apple had a lot of good ideas and made products from those ideas and consumers benefited. Just like Google had great ideas for their search engine and maps and now everyone benefits. But you think google is going to let every company use their searching technology to make a profit? Of course not, why would anyone spend time thinking of new ideas if someone else gets the rewards?
In a communist utopia this may work, but we live in a capitalistic society and patents encourage innovation (among other things good and bad)

yea, it's 99% certain that they do, but what is incriminating to Samsung is they imply things like "our keyboard should have the same spacing as Apple's".
Most people are making very simplistic arguments about each individual item, but fail to see the overall picture. For example, apple is not saying that they own the green phone icon, they are using that as one piece of a huge puzzle made. Yes, all companies analyze competitors, but what could go wrong for samsung is that they seem to alter android to look like iPhone too much. Unlike motorola and their much more different Droid.

Chris, do you read any of the material you post? Do you know how ridiculous it is to call this a smoking gun? I can understand trying to be on Apple's side(not really unless you have stock) but seriously...This report probably exists in every industry on every physical good where there is a competitive product. Do you realize that Apple is counting on the jury to be Apple users? Dumb and complacent that because they're a big company, they're right and everyone should just nod their heads and go along with it?

Samsung is a knockoff company. They got where they are by ripping off Jspanese electronics manufacturers. The Japanese werent assertive enough to go after them.

So Samsung finally copied someone thats fighting back.

They deserve it.

That said Im uncertain if Apple will be successful.

All companies compare their product against the competition and if the competition has a great idea, the other companies will try to incorperate it into their models but change it slightly so as not to make it a complete clone. Usually a 10% change is enough. Just changing the colour a bit is often enough. To all the ifans who refuse to look at logic, please explain why the latest iphone has suddenly got a drop down notification bar, which has been on android for a while now. The notification bar is a great idea and apple knows it, so of course they decided to use it themselves. This is the natural evolution of all products that you ever buy. Defending the product you use is a natural thing people do but to refuse blindly to see how the world works is just childish. You sound like the people who refuse to believe that dinosaurs walked the earth before humans. Just absolutely dumb and not doing any credit for yourselves.

I'd bet my house that Apple have an almost identical report where they discuss the merits of Android and how they can improve their OS by incorporating certain points.

It proves nothing, only that Samsung have done their homework.

There's a simple psychology issue that this report sidesteps: If you make one slide saying "don't copy" and hundreds of slides showing what to copy, what do you think the easiest path to please the manager who presented this report to an engineer will be? Of course Samsung did not want a pixel-for-pixel copy of Apple, they could have copied the binary icons off the iPhone if so. But the point is if Samsung was truly innovating, they wouldn't need to have a document like this in wide circulation through the company to improve their product, they would have done so organically and probably improved on the iPhone in many ways. THAT would have improved the industry, not a deep analysis of hundreds of features with specific recommendations on how to make the Samsung device like the iPhone!
