I don't see a problem with flash aside from a little buggy video player. HTML5 can't do everything and will not do everything that flash can do. You guy been drinking too much Steve's Koolaid. Have some Froyo for desert. Just plz don't bring your Lego block to the party thank you.

Well I can tell you that Flash causes the government nothing but trouble due to the numbers of developers that want to develop with drag and drop design tools that have no knowledge of the workings outside of tools that make the content for them. No keyboard access. No zoom. No magnification. No inheriting system colors or preference.

Developers and eLearning creators think it's neat to just make it look good quick. That has some value, but not worth the lack of accessibility, lack of adaptable design, and dependencies, when the open standards works pretty well and increased the likelihood the final product can be modified and work on most any browser.

People only ever talk about video in this discussion. I always thought HTML5 would be ideal for video. None of my Flash work has ever involved video.

For gaming where algorithms are more complex it's much nicer to be able to work in Flash rather than Javascript where you have to struggle against different browser implementations. Those that are celebrating Flash's death ought to look at the new Molehill APIs announced a couple of days ago:

http://www.bytearray.org/?p=2310

That is impressive stuff, no matter how blinkered you might be, and some way ahead of anything I've seen in WebGL - despite the HTML5 3d equiverlent been in development for much longer. Unity3d can do similar stuff if not better but does not have the market penetration like Flash.

When you kids stop trying to decide what's best (fuelled by journalists like this article no less), you will realise that all these competing technologies simply give extra tools in our toolbox to make better and better sites. That's what it should be about, not trying to kill off a technology because of a grudge like Steve Jobs.

As long as it works on my n900, I don't give a poop. I just watched some cool videos on HTML5 though, pretty neat and a LOT more than video ... Handheld device orientation recognition anyone?!

If I may say so, HTML5 has only won Flash in ways of video playback(by a little from what i've experienced on my computer). Which is fine with me, but it should be clear to the public that RIAs and Games built with Flash/Flex is still one of the top of the line choices.

I hated Flash's loading from the start, especially on low bandwidth. I avoided flash enabled websites or wouldn't stayed in them for long. While Flash has its uses, I prefer html5 as they are open standards.
