HTC Vive gets a pre-order date

If you've been waiting for VR to become a "thing," then this is your year. While you can already pre-order the Oculus Rift, HTC has been mum on just when you'll be able to put your cash up for their offering. As it turns out, you've still got a little while to wait.

HTC announced today that you will be able to officially place your pre-order for the Vive starting on February 29, 2016. What's interesting is that it will actually be shipping sooner than the Oculus Rift. The Rift currently has a ship date of June, while the Vive is slated to go live starting in April.

What we still don't know is the most important part of the equation, the price. It will need to be competitive with the Oculus Rift, as they're pretty close competitors in the market space. Yes, Sony is still working on their headset, but too little is known about its release to really make any comparisons.

Regardless of which you go with, you'll need to make sure that you have a beefy enough computer to actually run your VR headset of choice.
