I am a current Tmobile customer with my 2 yr contract completed and saw their online ad stating Guaranteed $100 trade in value for your smartphone when you purchase a 4G smartphone. Confirmed with them that it would be $100 off the $199 which already included a $50 rebate.

When I went to actually purchase it during the process I had to enter my phone make and model and the trade in calculator said my trade in value was $20. It is a HTC my touch smartphone that I bought from Tmobile.

When started a chat with one of the agents %Leonil C, it got worse, after much discussion she told me I had to cancel my current agreement and open a new account to be able to take advantage of the offer, plus a $35 fee, can you imagine what an inconvience that would be?

It terms of the $100 Guarantee trade in offer she basically said "it is what it is."

To further the confusion when you go to the trade in offer details it states on Magenta Deal Days the guaranteed minimum is $50 , $100, or $200.

At this point I had pretty much decided I would buy the HTC One X from Best Buy for $149.00 since Tmobile has absolutely no program for retention of their current customers and believe me they are in no position to not keep their customers.

But I decided to at least complain so I dialed 611 on my phone and tried to explain what I wanted, which was to buy the phone for $199 and trade in mine for $100 as advertised. Agent was very nice but it just got more confusing, he offered me the Phone for $217 and he would credit me back for one month of service, $69.99 netting down the phone to around $147. Not a bad price but it was now the principal of the deal. I was not getting as good a deal as a new customer would be and more importantly there advertising was extremely misleading .

To make a long story longer, I finally got a supervisor and was able to finally work out a deal. He showed his boss the website ad and they agreed it was misleading and they would send it to web marketing. Guess what? today the main ad doesn't say Guaranteed $100. But other places on the website it still states : Guaranteed $100 for any smartphone trade in and $200 for iPhone.

I have a print out of the Chat with the agent as well as a copy of the yesterday's ad and I believe I will sent it to the BBB, State Attorney's office, FTC, .
