HTC One Glamour Red edition official: Hits UK next month

HTC has revealed the HTC One Glamour Red, a new color variant of the flagship Android smartphone, headed to the UK initially. The handset, otherwise identical to the existing HTC One – which so far has come in far more sober black and silver hues – will go on sale as an exclusive with UK retailer Phones 4u from mid-July, HTC has confirmed.

Wrapped up in the red casing there's a 4.7-inch 1080p Full HD display and HTC's UltraPixel camera. That offers just 4-megapixels on paper, but promises higher quality images – particularly in low-light conditions and with fast-moving scenes – thanks to physically larger pixels.

Inside, there's a quadcore processor and 2GB of RAM, along with BoomSound speakers. We're usually skeptical of audio processing, but the boosted speakers on the One – and the fact that they're both on the front of the phone – does make a noticeable difference.

In fact, the One is one of our favorite phones of the year. Back when we reviewed the original version we found it offered a considerable step up from previous HTC devices, and presented a solid rival to Samsung's Galaxy S 4.

HTC and Phones 4u haven't confirmed pricing or specific availability for the One Glamour Red edition, though we'd expect it to be broadly in line with the existing variants. We're also yet to hear about international launch plans for the color.

Update: Phones 4u tells us that the HTC One Glamour Red edition is up for preorder from today, priced free on a new, two-year agreement from £33 ($51) per month or up.
