Now that Android 3.2 is out: http://bit.ly/reR70A we can see the real reason: Honeycomb wasn't ready for non 10" tablets (which would be evident if the source code was made available...)

Dual cores been out since Q3-Q4 of 2010(Viewsonic, eLocity, etc), recently dual core processors has been more popular with the test run on 1st gen dual cores tablets(gtablet, streak 7, etc) put aside and word of Android to support multicore processors. Once quad cores comes out its already has been year since dual core mobile processors have been released. Plus you have to recognize that we live in a world that technology gets better in a matter of months. With most companies already scheduled to release quad cores in Q4-Q1 i wouldn't be surprised with the Nexus coming with a quad core processor. Especially with the reception of Nexus S not being a "game changing" or "setting the standards" device for the Android community. Dual core optimized apps with still work on quad core since its still considered a multi core processor(not including tegra zone since that obviously only available on tegra devices). Dual core will still be here but quad core may be label as superphones, dual core as high end phones, single core(clocked above 1ghz) as high-midrange phones and single core(clocked at 1ghz or below) as med-low end phones. Thats my take on it, eventually in 2-3 years 1ghz single core processors may be considered low end phones. But seeing how the first-gen dual core was released, and seeing what was stated in timelines in companies(Nvidia, Freescale) first comes the tablets then the phones. Freescale) first comes the tablets then the phones.

LOL yeah. Quads are still IMO a year....or a year and a half away.

Dual core CPU's have been out for soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long and they have only just started making it into devices.

They will milk dual-core for all its worth.

What a bummer, If HTC have got a batch of Flyers with Android 3.1 i'll buy one. I just returned an ASUS Eee Pad Transformer after having it for 2 weeks. I saw one co. taking pre-orders on the HTC Flyer, and I was about to, but HTC SENSE is just not for me, I would have if it had Android 3.0 on there. So HTC if you're listening, please add a simple way to de-activate SENSE on your tablets.

Agreed, but seeing how things are in the tech world i expect a quad core not a dual core since the first quad cores are supposedly coming out in Q4 which is around the next Nexus and Ice Cream releases. And with more cores hopefully it fixes the issue of battery especially for HTC, with reviews praising Samsung GS2 for its battery life i hope the same applies for future multicore devices.

Well i definately understand Googles decision if true...the Flyer is not dual core to begin with. But will hope Google lets HTC make the next Nexus phone, that is if they haven't done so already. I want to upgrade my N1..passed on the Nexus S. I am convinced lots of ppl skipped the Nexus S as well and hopefully waiting for another Nexus by HTC..this time a bigger badder Nexus. A Sensation like Nexus with hopefully a 1.5Ghz dual core processor, 1/2Gb Ram, 16/32Gb internal memory, 8/12 Mpx cam(3D optional), 2/5 Mpx FFC, 1800/2000mAh battery, Super Amoled++ or qHD display max at 4.3 inch(3D optional). Well ofcuz all the new HTC innovations. All these stuff is out there...HTC pls just put it on a device either the upcoming Nexus or an unlocked vanila Android device.
