HTC Hero with AT&T 3G on sale unlocked

Tempted by an HTC Hero, but want the distinctive European styling and AT&T 3G?  Listings for the Android smartphone in its unlocked form are showing up online, with Negri Electronics advertising both the white and black NAM versions, SIM-free, with 850/1900 UMTS/HSPA connectivity.

The handsets are priced at $585.50 and $579.50 for the white and black versions respectively, and you get the usual WiFi, 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with multitouch browser support, 5-megapixel camera, Android 1.5 and HTC Sense.  HTC have promised an update for the Hero bringing it up to date with the latest version of Android (along with Sense), tipped to arrive at the end of the year with Android 2.1 compatibility, but so far there's no official timescale.

While Negri's source for the devices isn't made clear, it's entirely possible that the Hero handsets are from Canada.  The Hero is available on Telus in Canada, with the same 850/1900 3G bands as used by AT&T.
