HTC: future flagships will get "major Android updates" for 2 years

Today on Reddit, the HTC USA Product Team took to an AMA, answering questions from Redditors about a slew of things: business, products, and Android. The answers are still rolling in, but some interesting details have already been provided, among them being HTC's future plans for Android updates to its upcoming flagship devices.

After bragging about some of the company's history and involvement in the Android and smartphone industry, the product team announced that a future of spotty Android updates for flagship handsets will be coming to an end, giving new buyers reassurance that they'll be on the receiving end of the latest software for a while.

Said the team on Reddit:

We don't have a perfect track record regarding updates along with almost every phone manufacturer, but we're dedicated to bring more transparency to the process and doing our best to deliver updates as quickly as we can. Given the immense resource requirements for updates we can't solve all our past issues, but today we are making a commitment to support all new flagship devices going forward with all major Android updates for 2 years after their release date.

While a comforting promise, it does lead to the next logical question: what constitutes a "major" Android update? Such hasn't been specified, and no further clarifications by the team have been made on the matter, though the AMA is still in progress and we may hear more soon.
