The Amazon Kindle Fire is basically a customized Android version of the regular Kindle with IPS grade screen. Most of the standard to the not so standard features that most tablets offer is excluded from the KF.

No bluetooth, no GPS, no G-Sensor, no microphone, no cameras, no memory card expansion options, no digitizer, presently no 3G option, limited to Amazon App store and possibly limited side loading, no HDMI port or any other way to show video besides the 7" screen, and the other rarer features like no infrared for universal remote capabilities, etc.

So unless someone really wants the services provided by Amazon through the KF, then they may still prefer the other more capable tablets. At least as long as the price difference is justified by the added capabilities and/or features.

While many of the Amazon services aren't limited to being used on just the KF. So those other tablets could also benefit from at least some of those services. In additional to others like Netflix that may compete with Amazon.

Amazon for example is considering allowing other devices use their "SILK" browser service for example and their video on demand service is already compatible with many devices.

You'll have to pay for the Premium account membership anyway after the one month free with the KF purchase. So it's not like a $300 tablet can't compete with the KF, provided it provides enough extra amenities.
