Besides the fact that this thing is 7″, it looks AWESOME! Great job HTC!!

Thanks for the review. Does anyone know if any existing Windows Tablet PC styli would work in place of HTC’s Magic Pen? I see that a number of Windows Tablet PCs use N-Trig digitizers… Could anyone at SlashGear could give this a try?

Flyer has a pretty good PDF Reader (from Foxit, famous for the light-weight, fast PDF Reader) that allows you to annotate and sign PDFs and save back as genuine PDFs.

The back looks kinda ugly. Front is looking good, but the back, why can’t they just use all white instead of silver with white on top and bottom. it looks like mini ipad with diapers on. I’m disappointed in its appearance, otherwise it should be a good competitor in 7in tablet market.

Even though I’m disappointed that the Pen is an optional accessory in the US release, I’m still looking forward to getting my preorder! Excellent Review! Hopefully I can write up something insightful on my blog about this device once I’ve had a chance to play with it.

I thought android has an upper limit of 2GB for apps, and the rest must go to microSD cards, as android doesn’t recognize onboard flash storage as ROM; anyone???

Why would you buy any tablet? Ipad and its android clones are just couch computers for people scared of PCs. HTC is at least trying to carve another niche, tablets suck one way or another, 12″ android netbook is where it’s at.

In regards to the Notes application, would it be possible to VIEW and TAKE NOTES on Microsoft Office documents and PDF files downloaded onto the Flyer?

If not, could you access them through the Flyer if you first had these documents uploaded to Evernote via another platform (say, a PC)?

This is one of the deciding factors for me. I e-mailed HTC about it, but the response I got was rather vague and only referred me to the script of the press conference they had months ago.

Great review, Chris. You pretty much touched on all of the points I wondered about… except comparison to its peers, but that’s a non-issue until other current generation 7-inchers are available.

I agree. The functionality for the price just isn’t there. It has some good ideas going for it but looks too much like a first gen device. Nonetheless, it’s good to see someone trying to make a usable stylus for an Android tablet. stylus for an Android tablet.

Notes does seem to be quite a comprehensive solution but I agreee that the appeal of the tablet will be upped considerably if developers take advantage of the API for apps. I wonder how the (more limited) selection of current apps that are designed for “pen” input will work? Phatware’s Writepad, for example, provides handwriting recognition – how would that interact with the stylus?

ROM as in what exactly? It has 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. You also can’t “supercharge” the device end of USB since most motherboards (on PC’s, laptops etc) only push about 500mA thru it so charging is dependant on that and with about 3 times the capacity of a cell phone, Flyer will take long to charge from a computer. Better that than nothing though, some tablets take AC power only which i personally don’t like to carry around with me.

The palm-rejection system should prevent any trailing-palm issues for left-handed people using the pen, though of course both the stylus shortcut button and the radial tools menu are over on the right. But otherwise I shouldn’t imagine there’ll be a problem. What other issues do lefties normally encounter?

Good: HTC apps, looks, style

Bad: Battery life, latest android failure

Comment: Over all it is a good phone
specially for those who are not too much into technology. Everyone does
not need Honeycomb 3.0. The disaster which HTC has done is with the
battery life. When a device such as a tablet has a poor battery life, it
does not make a sense to buy it. HTC can always try to fix this problem
up.

HTC really screwed the pooch on this one. I thought they would make a decent tablet but noooooo. You would have to be an idiot to buy any of the android tablets out now instead of an iPad 2. Which will really infuriate the Google kiddies because they know it’s true.

Any comment on the device’s “supercharged” microusb port? Does it really charge as fast as the Xoom does through it’s secondary hole? Also, HTC claim the sound recording ability of the Flyer is some special tech, what gives?
