If ROM space is really the issue, why not just cut out some of the dead weight out it by leaving out a few of the larger apps (these are bound to be updated/replaced anyway by a market version).
Let people choose what they really need, insead of factory pre-installing a lot of precious ROM space eating app’s which will never be used more than once…

They said they hardware didn’t support it with a satisfactory HTC Sense experience. These new details do not state whether they’ll sacrifice the Sense experience to do this. I know it’s far more fun to make wild conclusions but it just makes you look silly.

They did bring it to the Wildfire, which has 512 MB of ROM as well. :

The Desire has 512 MB of ROM. Sense and Gingerbread don’t fit in this space. Unlike custom ROMS an OEM cannot use a partition in the Sd card. They have either cut down on the Sense UX or have possibly found a different solution.
If they had been delaying it without providing a reason, everyone would have complained. Now when they provide a reason everyone is pissed. When they come up with a solution everyone calls them cheats and what not. Fickle idiots you all are. They are doing the best they can. If you have a better solution, DO SOMETHING

This can’t look good for customer relations. You can’t piss off a large user base and then – based on them being pissed off (surprise!) – change your mind.

If the hardware doesn’t support it, what happened that it now supports it a day later?

I stay firmly on my position, I will never buy again a device made by HTC, this flipflops doesn´t make them look as a costumer oriented company or a big coimpany, they used a lame escuse, at least say no 2.3 for desire owners don´t talk gibberish about memory leak or potential
