You really are an idiot. Have you ever once seen the unlock screen on the "true blue Android"? Based on the level of stupidity on your post, I am guessing no. Go find a Nexus with 2.1. Turn it on.

Once you go and find the basic unlock (not the key code) screen, come back and explain to the group how amazingly short sighted you are as well as having a minimal understanding of technology.

The 650 had a key-guard that would disable the keyboard/touch screen after awhile (or when it shut off Can't remember the specifics). You then had to press a physical button (was the green talk button?) to get it going again. This is WAY WAY different than the iPhone lock screen that Google ripped-off lock-stock-and-barrel. Likewise, WP7 does it way differently. The method Google chose could use 100% the same exact code as what is in the iPhone.

Me having no knowledge about patents and sueing and all that kind of stuff.
I am wondering, as this not the only place I read : the 2 patents HTC infringed, or however it is called, are like very general patents.

If the majority of the "common" people say this, will this mean that the "professional" patent research people have the same conclusion?

Patent sueing stuff, is that like kindergarten, I like you so I push you on the floor? =)

Hopefully somebody can shed some light in my darkness.

A switch? A swipe up like WP7? A soft button?

It is embarrassing that Android's unlock could use 100% the same exact code as iOS's unlock with different images. If used correctly, patents force innovation by coming up with new and unique methods instead of blatant coping.

Most software patents and many hardware patents are ridiculous (just like these). The reasons is that a patent examiner has about 20 hours per patent to approve or deny the patent, and the default unless sufficient evidence exists that the patent should not be granted is to grant. It is left to the courts subsequently to force re-examination and trial of patents. Just because a patent is granted doesn't mean that it is valid. It is just presumed to be until someone tries it court.

I'm not surprised. You probably just an Apple fanboy who has no idea about patents. Patents are just a curse to innovation.

Apple has a patent on swiping the screen to unlock the phone. Just tell me what else you can imagine to unlock a touch screen phone other than that?

Perhaps you should get a firm understanding of software patents? It is virtually impossible to do anything in the software space without "infringing" on a patent? Why? Most software patents are invalid but the amount of money necessary to fight them is too high. Software patents make everything cost more and are counter to the concepts of innovation and incremental improvement. No actual 'theft' occurred here, by either side.

It's very simple for HTC, Samsung, etc. If they want to use IP license it. Right now they're using the IP of others and trying to see if they can get away with it.
Exactly.

And as has been mentioned (but not promoted as much as it needs to be), HTC just bought S3's patent portfolio - they could essentially drag everyone who makes a product with 3D images through the court, given how S3TC is pretty much a given these days.

Any patent that is fundamental to the operation of a device (Android is an OS, and the patents do not target Android specifically, so that's misleading btw) is going to find itself weakened on re-examination, and potentially destroyed. The strongest patents are those dealing with features that are not core, and therefore more likely to pass the novelty/non-obvious tests.

It's pretty ballsy of Apple, and the risk they are taking is to provoke Motorola, Samsung, and HTC into a patent alliance that would be devastating for the Cupertino company. Combined, these three companies have sufficient patent power on core and incidental mobile patents to shut Apple's product range down long term and force extensive redevelopment costs. That's not something Apple wants, so they have to be very careful who they push and how hard.

The goal of these lawsuits isn't to prevent HTC or Samsung making phones, it's to slow adoption and throw a cloud over Android devices as a whole.
