Things dont have to be ugly to be so you can do "work" on them. Why cant it be both?
Not sure about the GFX card, but I like the "no nonsense" design. Looks like something you can do work on, as opposed to iMacs which seem like toys.

Is the hardware Linux/BSD friendly? Kind of pointless to call it a workstation if it doesn't support operating systems you can actually do serious work on.

"...just 400 watts"
What are you going to do, find room for a pair of giant video cards?
Since THAT upgrade is out... probably not an issue.

"With the possible exception of Apple’s Mac Pro, there’s really no workstation-class machine that inspires desire, despite the backbone that they provide for high-end work in industry."

Seriously? You think Apple's Mac Pro inspires desire? How does that happen? I think Apple computers are the most boring computers ever to be made. If I didn't have to use one for XCode, I would never turn on an Apple computer because after I pressed the button to boot, I am already bored of it!
