I was considering a Nook Color before this went on sale. I bought the 32GB version. So far, it stinks as an ereader for anything other than Kindle books. I have many PDFs I'd like to convert to epub or mobi formats, but the Touchpad imports them very slowly (like 20-30 minutes per book) and I can only import them with preader. I tried a .99 app called ReadMe which always locks the entire table up. Oh, and no refunds BTW. I am thinking of selling mine and buying the Nook I originally wanted, or maybe an iPad now that the nearly 10" screen has spoiled me. I'm holding out hoping for a good port to Android.

When I first bought my TouchPad I had every intention of putting Android on it. After spending some time with WebOS, it is pretty nice. The only thing that would interest me at this point would be dual boot Honeycomb/WebOS.

The point of the TouchPad is you get WebOS. I would buy a TouchPad for $99 (if they were available) to get the Palm operating system. Its impressive that the really smart geeks have gotten Android to run on it, but of its of little interest. There are enough devices that run Android natively.

Well actually not.

I have a touchpad waiting at custom clearance bought on Ebay. It is rather the fact that this is the last chance to get a WebOS tablet that made me buy it as quick as possible. I have studied the user interfaces of iOS, Android and WebOS and it was clear to me that WebOS suits my needs best. User interface is very important to me and even though i never have held a webos device in my hand, and that HP has stopped making more devices thus never getting webos to most of the world and it's potential users-, I still choose to get one indirectly from them through ebay. This promts a hassle setting up a virtual bankcard for one of their supported contries and so on just to get access to their rather grim appstore.

I've also read that several users who previously was unknown with WebOS and bought it based on the low price and posibility of running Android, actually ended up liking WebOS so much that they changed their mind about which OS they prefer.

I don't doubt about that there are someone out there who truely wish to get an cheap Touchpad and run Android on it, but I would sertainly think that soon the need of hardware to run webos on will be greater hence to the lack of available webos hardware, this may be more difficult unless HP fully opensource WebOS which indeed allready is a linux OS.

What HP has done lately is stupid unless they must have known(or felt) that their cloud strategy which they wanted to pair it's WebOS devices to is simply further forward in time than what make it ecconomically feasable to produce hardware products that depend on such services still missing. This has put both Android tablets and the Touchpad at a great disadvantage to the iPad. Therefore it may be right for them to license and/or fully opensource it. My opinions greatly differ from the author of the article commented in which I find simplistic and unnecessary blunt.
