I just paíd $20.82 for an íPad 2.64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasoníc Lumíx GF 1 Cámera that we got for $38.79 there arriving tomorrow by UP S.I will never pay such expensive retail príces in stores again. I having trouble believing the article. HP announced it is out of the WebOS game completely and rumor is, it is positioning itself to sell off this portion of it’s business rather than trying to win over a big user base by making a fire sale.

They have no basis to sue anyone. There were tablets long before Apple thought about making the iPad. I used to eyeball a particular Toshiba few years ago, but was waiting for the next model which was supposed to have a gps chip built in. When that came out, it was pre-loaded with Vista, so I did not buy it.

There is something funny about this new action sites. They want $$ up front and use these items as bait. I have a friend that signed up the those iPads are never on sale but they are always listed in some sort of waiting section. Seriously who would sell new iPad for 29.00 bucks? What people seem to keep missing is that the TouchPad was actually the #2 best selling tablet against the iPad. It was keeping just fine against Android but the problem was that in the tablet market Apple has a 90% dominance.

The HP TouchPad may be good mainly for wireless internet and apps. That’s what justifies the price. Then of course, many gamers still turn to powerful $1500 desktops with quad-core / six-core AMD Phenom II and Intel Core i7 processors, DirectX 11 video cards, and HDMI hookups with 1080p displays for the best gaming experiences. In conclusion, you get what you pay for.

Not really. Test the waters at the ‘going market rate’ and adjust accordingly. It’s prudent business. I’ve got a launch day TouchPad, and though I am happy with it, I think HP is doing the right thing. The product was alright at launch. With the lust released 3.0.2 update, the TouchPad is a solid platform. Now it needs users and devs to feed the cycle.

The chicken / egg cycle means that HP has to bait users in order to attract more devs to the platform.

Look at it this way. MS bought devs with cash for WP7 hoping to entice users. HP is buying Users with discounts hoping to entice devs. I like the HP path because devices in user hands are far more enticing than short term cash for a platform that has no promise of devices in user hands.

Take another look and count the tablet specific WebOS apps. Do the same for Android. All of the sudden WebOS looks a lot better than it did 2 weeks ago. Adding more devices in user hands is only a good thing.

In this case, as the article said, the price cuts were a marketing effort. HP is playing it smart, in my opinion. By lowering the price and offering it in different outlets, anyone can buy WebOS and be part of its new trend. It’s a long-term commitment.

If I had to bet money, I bet HP didn’t see how much planning and restructuring they had to do to push their WebOS. hahaha.

I tend to steer from the columns, but I enjoyed this one. It stays on topic (electronics, business, markets) and it isn’t like the other more personal columns I’ve read. THANK YOU!!!

I don’t find the price cut desperate, I think its an answer to the Consumer’s cry to have a decent tablet at a fair price, Something Apple, and honeycomb both haven’t done. Hopefully it come down even more to $300, that be a nice day.

If HP was committed from the start, they would have priced the Touchpad at $379 and $479 out of the gate with an additiona launch rebate for early adopters for the first week or two.

Not that it matters, since in the U.S. there’s no real benefit to purchasing a unsubsidized phone since the plan prices are the same.

Your an idiot in the UK blogging on a retailer error that isn’t being honored. The retailer isn’t even in the UK, but if you did your research instead of repeating all the other blogs, then you would have found out it was an error.

The TouchPad was great, but what it lacks is support from a lot of the developers and services I use on a daily basis. iPad offers AirPlay support for my entertainment systems, a greater selection of apps compatible with the popular online services I use, like instagram, spotify, and many others, and frankly has no hiccups. The software is very optimized for the device.

WebOS was amazing for working and flipping through apps. When I was done browsing the web, though, I had to go back to my iPhone and iPad for other tasks. I also had some issues with browsing the web with the music player running in the background. The audio would start clipping. The OS would occasionally freeze if I tried to pinch and zoom on a page as it was rendering.

HP needs to win over iOS developers with some kind of incentive to force the web to recognize the value of a webOS experience.

All of that said, all of the Touchpad/webOS trash talk should stop, as it is a great platform. I wish understood the resentment.

Apple’s created a new, crybaby, self-entitled tech consumer.

Back in the day, if you spent a crapton of money on a device and it ended up on Fry’s discount shelves within a few weeks, you still rocked that device like it was the bees knees because … well … it WAS.

The TouchPad is a great device, but those who rushed out and bought one, and are now in tears because of price cuts, are out of line. Buyer’s remorse is not some new concept. There is a return period and if it didn’t live up to its expectations in that time period, you should have returned it.

It’s been updated, they’ve gotten rid of some of the bugs, and now they are going after people who either: (a) waited because they knew they wouldn’t be able to justify the purchase price, or (b) wanted to see how the device would turn out.
