HP logoIt looks like HP is joining the LED-backlit bandwagon. Other manufacturers such as Apple, Asus and Acer have already stated that they will be releasing notebooks with the LED technology.

According to sources, AU Optronics and Chi Mei Optoelectronics will begin shipping 12.1” LED-backlit panels to HP in June. These panels will reportedly be used in an upcoming notebook to be launched sometime in Q3.

The technology is still in its early stages, with only a few notebooks currently on the market. But it is far more environment-friendly than standard LCD screens which will likely push more manufacturers to begin using them.
