HP 'Sustainable Packaging' DV6929WM-B laptop & bag bundle

HP have announced a new sustainable packaging bundle, to be sold exclusively through US retailer WalMart.  The deal consists of the company's DV6929WM-B 15.4-inch notebook, based on a 2GHz AMD Turion X2 TL-60 Dual-Core Mobile CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 250GB 5,400rpm SATA hard-drive, bundled with a laptop bag made from recycled materials.  However it's not just the bag that's earth-kind: both the way the DV6929WM-B starts its journey, and the way your old PC ends it, are too.

HP will be shipping the notebooks inside the laptop bags, rather than in cardboard boxes, and that lets them fit three of the machines into the space normally occupied by one.  The plastic wrap around the bag is recycled, as is the cardboard outer packaging, and HP has updated its labelling to indicate where different materials are sourced and what can be done with them instead of throwing them in the trash.

Aside from the usual manuals and recovery discs, HP include a voucher that covers recycling the old PC that the DV6929WM-B replaces.  Altogether, packaging waste is reduced by 97-percent.

The DV6929WM-B eco-friendly bundle will be in-stores either in September or October 2008.  Price is yet to be confirmed.
