They just want to make a large margin per unit and ship a bunch of units. By that measure Apple probably makes more per iPad then HP makes per PC, and Apple most certainly makes more total profit then HP, which not too long ago was trying to ditch the PC business and go into the software service business.

I was initially uncomfortable about people mixing iPads into PC marketshare, but I don’t have a compelling argument against it.
