I don't find the touchpad chunky or buggy at all. It all depends on what you are looking for. As an industry professional with easy access to tons of devices including the latest and the greatest, I find myself using what some might consider a chunky Smartphone with a real keyboard and the HP Touchpad. As fine products as they are, I passed on the iPad1 & 2, all of which I had for a couple of days - just didn't like the feel.

I still wish I had an touchpad, I'm not super big on apps so webos was just so much more convenient to me than my android phone, sometimes I'm still like, "Why will you not do what I want phone."

there definitely is room for another OS, but HP's strategy so far has been completely ass backwards. they took all their money for it and put it in a chunky, buggy tablet that people only bought to put android on.

what should the HP strategy have been from the start? Apps, apps, apps. and nice hardware for them to go on. HP needs to take any money they put aside for webOS and buy developers to make apps for it. then they need to design some phones that don't look like pea-sized blackberries. we don't need an innovative design HP, we just need one that works. the standard android design is fine.

if HP does that and the phones pick up 10%+ of the phone market, THEN they can design a tablet. without a solid standing in the phone market though (which won't come without the apps!) no one will buy a tablet without a fire sale.

Well said.
When I got my pre on 6-6-9 day1 I never thought it'd get to e so bad. The first 6months or so with the sprint pre was great. 3d environment gaming way before android. But here we are.
Still have my pre minus and got 2 touchpads. I am running ICS on both, for now.

... spending millions of dollars to do the work on open sourcing it, as well as significantly updating components of it, as they did -yesterday-, is not investing in it?

I think one should read the Motorola comment a little bit differently -- with Google and Motorola in bed together like that, the Android ecosystem is going to change. Hopefully it changes for the better -- the Android Marketplace is a terrible place to be -- but it's definitely going to change.
