I can tell you with certainty that HP is only increasing the price on drives where our suppliers are increasing the price on us. In some cases we are even eating some of the additional cost by lowering margins.
And for servers, SAS drives are nor nearly as affected by the issues in Thailand as SATA are.
500GB SATA is now just as expensive as an Enterprise 300GB 10K SAS.
Lastly, even though they are stupid expensive in the Server market, SSDs are not increasing in price so in some cases (IOPs over Capacity) they are making more sense now.

And they care because…. There is a massive shortage so they’re not exactly going to struggle to sell what they have at stupid prices.

Work for a hosting firm and we’ll keep buying regardless of the cost. Multi million pound contract depend on us keeping services running and raid array fully provisioned.
