Casual gaming is the price to pay when there is a buck to be made on mass appeal. Sony is the only savior for hardcore gaming simply because they refuse to appeal to the mass majority. But Nintendo and its kitty looking features probably realized at one point that they don't have to appeal to the hardcore gamers. They can keep their "look" and still be successful and that is by appealing to people who would normally never buy a console. As for X box 360/kinect? That is the great in between for people who don't want Wii's simplicity or Move's complexity.

When you think about it, its kind of good to have 3 different levels of gaming, because then all 3 could coexist and appeal to the entire audience.

That's because motion gaming is a fad like 3D movies, and will essentially always suck. Still, that sadly doesn't make this article any more worthwhile...

well, i understand what Don Reisinger was trying to say and i completely agree with him only on one part; that is the Wii. Let me explain, the idea of a motion controller for the Wii is good or should i say is great, those who have played Zelda,super smash bros brawl, .......know what I'm talking about. But what i would really reproach the Wii is not mostly the wiimote but the crappy graphics. As for the wiimote, its inaccuracy is exceptional when playing a sport game there is not really a need to jump around to try to hit the ball really! all u need to do is to shake the wiimote no real effort is to be made, moving around the room is just useless and unnecessary since in reality the Wii cannot detect where u are nor your movements the only thing it does detect is the wiimote's position to the censor bar nothing more.listening to people playing sports games and fitness games on the Wii is just a joke because all they are doing is faking it; and I know so because i have the Wii. I see the Wii as a great idea of Nintendo that Sony and Microsoft tried to make better! the Wii and PlayStation move, are just prototype of what real motion gaming is about( Kinect).

I'm gonna hijack this thread a bit and argue that as all the consoles become more and more technically micro pc's , I still cling to my actual pc for games ....
My reason .... I like the precise , mouse / keyboard controls , and if a game works well with a pad I've got one of those too.

What makes me sad is that developers are now beginning to see the console market at their main target now rather than the pc . Attracted by things such as piracy prevention , and the fact that its easy to hide bad / unorigional games behind current fad's such as motion control , ( current ) , haptic feedback;
rumble packs and gshock pads ( late 1999 > 2003) what has emerged is that often the game comes out for pc , late ( odd considering many games are born on pc's or development kits that resemble pc's) shouldn't the pc be considered the premium gaming platform not the black sheep getting second rate development schedules

Back on the topic of motion control at the end of the day ... Playing games is supposed to be something we do to relax .... Flailing around my living room after a day at work isn't really what I want to do to chill out in my me time , I like to sit in my chair ... read slashgear , make comments , then play a game for a bit and im sure a lot of you lot do too.

( i really should spellcheck this but ... bah ... im gonna play a game sue me :-P)

So let me get this straight. The concept of holding a controller, the foundation of video gaming itself, doesn't appeal to you but the idea of running around the room making way more movement then should be required by video games does? In that case instead of wasting your money on something you are going to hate anyways, you should go buy some sports equipment and leave the gaming to the actual gamers.

We are very lucky that when we were kids in the 80's we did not have to deal with people like this complaining about video games being made for kids. The game industry has truly come full circle.

I don't like saying this, I really don't, but maybe it's time for you to grow up if you've reached the point where you begrudge a video game system (a toy) having a lot of games for kids to play with.

Personally I think Kinectimals is awesome and I'm glad to finally see some content on Xbox 360 for someone other than us manchilds. Honestly don't really understand why you think an adult couldn't enjoy any of the motion control sports games, fitness, fighting, racing or dancing though. If you can't deal with games having a cartoony aesthetic there is still a lot of other adult oriented content for Kinect like Forza, MotionSports, Child of Eden, EA Sports Active, Fighters Uncaged, Zumba, Fable 3, Star Wars, and even Harry Potter. And that's only what's been announced to come out this year.
