Hotel builds giant Godzilla, puts guests in a room near him

If you've ever visited Shinjuku and thought to yourself that Godzilla would fit right in with all those towering buildings, you were right, and in the near future you'll be able to find him there — from the shoulders up, at least. This is thanks to Hotel Gracery, a hotel above Toho Cinema (hence the mythical monster focus), which is building a large Godzilla statue — a bust, basically — to complement a couple of Godzilla-themed rooms. You wake up, and there outside the window is Godzilla.

Hotel Gracery will be having its grand opening on April 24, and ahead of that it is building a Godzilla head/neck/upper shoulders on the roof of Toho Cinema, where it appears that Godzilla is taking a look over the buildings to the people below. It appears to be life-sized (depending on which movie size you consider canon), and it is unmistakable.

Given how unusual it is, the Godzilla statue will also be open as a tourist attraction with which fans and other interested visitors can snap a picture with the beast. The "Godzilla Room", meanwhile, will include related memorabilia and a giant lizard hand stretching out over the bed.

Those who score a "Godzilla View Room" will be able to see the statue right outside their window, getting a feel for what it would be like if he were roaming the city. Those viewing rooms will cost about $125 USD per night, while the memorabilia room will be higher starting above $300 USD/night.
