The Galaxy Tab is a failure (I have one and now I'm starting to hate it) simply because there ARE NO updates. Why isn't 2.3.3 been released LONG AGO? Why isn't a 3.0 update being released just now? Apple updates its phone and tablet firmware all the time, for everyone. The galaxy tab is a powerful hardware gem, and just can't understand why Samsung chose not to support its incredible hardware with great software. I won't be buying anything from Samsung anymore.

I've just picked up a 7" Tab and think the form factor is great. Small enough to carry, book size, big enough to browse (replacing my HTC Desire as device as choice for browsing when I can't be bothered to swith the laptop on).

And looking at the poll results - more people agree - as of writing 43% prefer 7", 40% prefer 10".

Can't see the point of a 5" - might has well get a bigger smartphone.

This is typed with my 7 inch tab.

Frankly, I find the form factor to be perfect but only if you don't mind having a giant phone. It's big enough to get real work done and portable enough to replace a phone. If you live in a place where it gets no phone capabilities though...that may be a different story. The fact that carriers are blocking the phone ability in some lucrative regions make me suspect that this may be the last 7 inch phone capable tablet to be released by a major phone manufacturer. And that is why I bought it despite the fact that it will not get Honeycomb. And yes, this tabphone would be even better for ladies without giant handbags. I gotta get a man bag if I wanna wear pants with shallow pockets...

I love the 7 inch tab size, the only thing that made me stop & not buy it, was I want android 3.0. And I was also pissed off to hear that we don't get phone support, like the people in europe do. I already cary a phone, and ipod, and a laptop 90% of the time. I would love to ditch the phone & ipod for a 7 inch tablet, and be able to leave my laptop in the hotel room for when I actually need it. If Samsung could pull things off I'd buy it in a heart beat.

The thing that made some of the critics said that the 7" Galaxy Tab sales or either not much end user was eager to buy it because of wrong screen size. They are wrong. The thing is that 7 is the most suitable for a tablet with phone capability like Samsung Galaxy Tab. But most end-user wants to have Android v3.0 Honeycomb for what did Google said that Android v2.2 FroYo isn't all for a Tablet. So if Samsung will release the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch with phone capability and Android 3.0 Honeycomb in it, for sure it will surpass the sales of most tablet and slate PC with bigger screen sizes. That's for sure because bigger screen tech should be left at home. Get it!

I have a Galaxy Tab with phone working. I love it. It fits nicely in my man bag and it looks cool reading the news on it in a cafe. I disagree it's a toy. I have all of my lecture notes on it, synced with my PC. It's comfortable to read in bed and thumb type on. There's so much serious BS out there regarding 7 inchers and even Froyo. It works fine and looks good. There's demand for smaller tabs sure and with increasing screen resolutions, 7 inches will be the size of the future. I bet even Apple will change its spots.

My non US Tab have that great phone capabilities, and no I'm not ashamed to put it besides my ear whenever I forgot my bluetooth earpiece.

It's a bit geeky but, it was functional.. Plug it on the projector for my lectures, on the go tv via browser with flash, real soccer ( yeah thats a great game), social networking, even editing small html files via ftp on the go, fun effect-crazed photos, not to mention my comics, magazines, and books, all in my everyday jeans/pants pocket..

I own a first gen iPad with iPhone before, but this 7"er is a beaut on it's own that makes me decide to leave my iOS with frash for this.. Froyo is not bad at all, its great! :)

"Another is portability; while the Galaxy Tab can fit into a coat pocket (or even your jeans pocket, if you’re not a fan of skinny fit), how many people actually do take it out with them?"

News flash there is approximately 50% of the population (women) that carry purses that would be perfect for a 7inch but not a 10inch form factor. I HATE that tech blogs always assume no women have any interest in technology. If google and/or samsung want success they'll need to market to both genders (something apple is very good at). It would be nice if tech journalists acknowledged this fact as well /rant

Don't see that spec yet. probably won't. However, with the Tab 7" there is a hack to make it voice compatible if you get it from either AT&T or T-Mobile you can get that. Google Search this: U.S. Samsung GSM Galaxy Tab Hacked to Enable Phone Functionality (since I probably cannot add a link here). I'm waiting for an 8" Tab with slide-out keyboard, on ATT or unlocked so I can hack it for voice. Good luck to both of us.

I totally agree with you! Except of course, now they have launched, plus.... I've had an 8.4" tablet for over 6 months. BUT asking people who have never used one yet to vote on size, yes, that is funny. Two-part poll, 1. Do you Own a Tablet, and if yes, #2, which size, would be more helpful.

For instance, I have a 7 and an 8.4. How do I know that 10.1 is too big for me? Everywhere I go, I have a lap bag of some sort with something in it. I only take my cell phone out dancing, LOL. For all I know, 10.1 might be what I'm looking for (but I'm waiting for slide-out keyboards, enough with this virtual kiddy stuff). Enjoyed the poll anyway, but really hoping that they solve both by sticking in the 8" range, with slide-out - making the most of the middle size they'll find fits the market share which is really what they want after all. :)

Actually, I really like the 8.4" that I have. Better than 7, just that little bit more that makes a HUGE difference. Only thing they really need now is voice and more importantly Slide-Out Keyboards! I've tried for years to type on virtual keyboards of all types, simply will not send a business email using one. All my cell-phones MUST have slide-out, so I found same for my Tablet. I love my 8.4", but am looking to buy the first fully functional tablet from a major manufacturer that has a slide-out.

Approximately 2 million tab users sitting without a software update for galaxy tabs? This can't be good for google and in my opinion this would short sighted on the part of both google and samsung if it were true.

It makes the ipad 2 seem more appealing in terms of after sale service and software updates.

That is just my sentiment.

Well, for what it's worth, I happen to have a Galaxy Tab 7" and love it. I mean, LOVE it. My wife allowed me to splurge for my birthday a couple months ago and I went out and tried the iPad, then the Tab. I'll admit there were many things I loved about the iPad, but in the end I just couldn't help enjoying being able to hold the Tab in one hand, which I could not do with the iPad. I even borrowed my friend's iPad for a few days to try to convince myself to get the iPad, but kept coming back to my personal preference for the smaller size.

Now, for everyone who's bashed me (out in the real world and in tech forums) for my OWN DECISION on how to spend MY MONEY, I say that you are totally free to go out and buy whatever you wish. If you love Apple, buy the iPad and enjoy the heck out of it. Hate Apple? Get a Xoom or consider the Tab. Just remember, NONE of these is for anything more than mild entertainment. They are expensive "toys for boys," as the saying goes. I cruise the web, check e-mails, play some Freecell, and use it as a music player via Pandora connected to my home theater system. I don't really know how Honeycomb, iOS, RIM, Maple Syrup, or Dingleberries is going to change my Tab enjoyment much, or how 100,000 apps I'll never use will do anything but drain my bank account a buck at a time; but I will say I'm pretty darned happy with my Galaxy Tab 7" and really hope Samsung, and many other manufacturers, will give consideration to continuing this form factor.

lolz, i hate to admit it but i'm really hoping society changes it mind on the manbags and merses too. we just got too many dang gadgets these days and so few pants pockets ;)

the Tab really shows its potential once you root it and throw on the rotohammer custom rom; sad you have to do this to get back original functionality and also can remove the download/upload speed caps that the ATT Tab's radio software contains. over 1.5Mbs uploads after, .5MBs uploads before custom rom.

i hope that the big sleeper announcement for the iPad2 is a 7" version. i'd be back on the iOS wagon then; until then i'll stick w/my Tab.

7" is actually the perfect size imo for a tablet that i would take out the door with me.

10" is great for the couch or plane but not so for a normal night out w/pals.

I just hope we see Honeycomb on the Tab; could def help samsung make up for some of its recent PR blunders and show that they care about us that took the risk of getting a Tab. Doubtful but atleast we have the xda hackers/modders.

as for 2.2 and not being good for a tablet, i disagree. browser on the tab is prob one of the weaker points but i usually get an RSS type reader anways (ie google reader or pulse) for my news reading/tech blogs. i guess i'm not sure exactly what people's complaints are in regards to the Tab.
