well the thing is that every android oem like to add theur skin on top of android. so once the updates do come fromgoogle. the oems get them take their sweet time and then shoot it to the carriers.. and the carriers push it out when they feel like it.. which is slow so you are forced to upgrade.. android is a pretty ugly system.. google should take it in to their hands and distribute updates more like apple.

another reason why things that are “open” suck. carriers take advantage of it, and give slow upgrades so youre forced to root or upgrade, to have the latest and greatest droid os.

I debate the “toughness” aspect of this device, although it’s based entirely on the description. Aluminum and kevlar are *strong*, but they are *very* susceptible to scratching and denting. Kevlar, in particular, is really just reinforced glue, and the glue tends to be fairly soft.

Time will tell, of course.As to the waterproofing, I’m still surprised this is a problem. Seriously, is it *that* hard to isolate the headphone jack and power?! That said, my iPhone 4 ended up under 4 inches of water at 43.681676, -80.435127, and continues to work fine (which is a complete surprise to me, let me tell you).

the reason is to prevent user from servicing the device . . forcing the user to bring it back to apple. Same thing with the proprietary screw heads . . . cmon ppl . . WAKE UP

And how do you know that apple didn’t have a reason to include a removable battery in their design the same way the razr doesn’t have one because of its thin profile there must be some reason apple made the decision the exclude one from theirs

Did they fire their whole design crew at Motorola, or do they need too?

Who cares if this phone is super thin, when the costs are as obvious as this one…

I’d rather buy a slightly thicker and MUCH MORE attractive phone that’s readily available now and in the near future…than this pos…

Meh…for a multi-billion dollar company to come out with this…

If you want an ultra thin phone, you’ve got to make a compromise somewhere. In this case it’s reasonable, but yeah, that does reduce the lifespan of the phone by a bit.

On the down side, you’re usually pushed an OS upgrade your phone can’t handle, then it gets really slow and you don’t have the option to downgrade. Apple would really do everyone a favour if you only got one OS update, at least then what your phone maxes out at it can run with reasonably good performance.

Since it’s a Super AMOLED screen (the RAZR) wouldn’t it also be pentile? The Galaxy Nexus also has a pentile Super AMOLED HD but the pixel density makes the Galaxy Nexus screen look more crisp.

The thing is that Apple is only updating a small number of devices. They introduce a new phone relatively in an annual rate and only have to worry about updating for example (now) the iPhone 4/s and 3GS. When the hardware becomes too old, they just stop updating that certain generation. So they only have three devices to deal with, all of them most likely having a similar architecture. Android on the other hand has extreme fragmentation that makes it hard for updates to be universal. Google usually updates their OS earliest but with hundreds of devices to update and carriers being plain stubborn, Android is a difficult device to deal with when it comes to updates. Solution? Get the Galaxy Nexus
