And one last note, everyone is calling this the future of gaming, and it's so not! Did you know that there are technologies being developed so that you can control a game with nothing more than your mind? I saw on discovery a couple years ago an Asian guy wearing a sleek headband like thing that allowed him to move his player and throw objects in the game environment just by thinking it! And I read in the paper something similar already being sold as an add on for computers. While it still could be years from being in a video game this is the REAL future of gaming, and then virtual reality

Well kinect is obviously getting very different opinions from very different ppp, for me it boils down to what you want to get out of your gaming experience. "casual" gamers will probably love it, while a true to definition "hardcore" gamer will be infinitely frustrated. I am a hardcore gamer, I demand precision and rapid control in my games, along with full control, like driving a Ferrari Enzo. The fact that the kinect has any lag at all (in all games so far) and is slower at navigating through my xbox then using my controller essentially makes it useless to me, and the lvl of control in kinect games is minimal, steering a car around a track, I don't play racing games if I dont have manual gear shifting, and I love how forza has a clutch button specifically. But all that aside the kinect racing game doesn't even incorporate a gas or brake option...so ultimately kinect is not for me, i can see in the future it might ge to a lvl that interests me, but right now it seems too much like I'm downgrading from the enzo like handling and speed and precision of my controller (and even my playstation move controller which I have started to fall in love using it with MAG), down to using a soccer moms minivan style handling with kinect. Personally I think it's true hardcore gamer applications will be on the next gen systems most likely, until the. I'll stick with the move being my #1 choice. And this is just my opinion as a true hardcore gamer, make your own up for yourself.

While some Kinect features do sound good, I believe Sony's got the upper hand because it also uses a Camera, Mic AND Wii mote' like controls to add precision and buttons. Thus I believe that Sony can pull the same tricks as the Kinect with software and some clever engineering. The best of both worlds, plus they are ahead in the home 3D gimmick (which is stupid in my opinion).

I personally think that, much like Nintendo with the DS, they should start by aiming it at gamers and then move it slowly towards casual. Gamers make good early adopters, but only if they like what they see, and I certainly didn't like what I saw at Microsoft's E3 conference. I can appreciate the tech behind it, but Kinect just didn't look that fun. It kind of reminded me of EyeToy, and that was a waste of money.

With the DS, Nintendo started out with the gamers (the first DS even came with a demo of Metroid Prime Hunters), and then people - non-gamers - would've seen them out in public, and maybe decided to buy one as they introduced touch generations and things like that.

I'm not saying that would work for Microsoft, it's a home console, but what I am saying is that Xbox is traditionally a gamers platform... In fact I think it's the platform of choice for gamers right now, if my friend's opinions are anything to go by. There's a HUGE audience of gamers that would have bought a Kinect if they'd just had more gamer's games on display. The sales figures might prove me wrong but i'm almost certain the Kinect won't sell brilliantly.

Problem is, none of the big companies focus exclusively on gamers anymore. Makes choosing an allegiance pretty difficult.
