If you’ve ever had to hold chilled spoons to your eyes just to get them uncrossed after an epic Nintendo DS session, this Health Control Game Timer may be the gadget to save your sight. Plugging into the handheld console, the HCGT can be set to automatically shut the DS down after a preset length of time.

That can be anything from 30 minutes to two hours, in 30 minute increments. There’s also a proximity sensor that flashes a red light should your face get too close to the DS; you can set that to “short”, “medium” or “long” distance, depending on how long your neck and arms are.
Frankly this could be the most frustrating peripheral ever, if you’re in the midst of a mammoth online gaming session when it decides your delicate peepers have had enough. That’s enough reason for me to like it, anyway. On sale now for 3,990 yen ($40); there’s a video of it delighting a lady here.

Big deal. They already have a device that will shut off the PSP after up to two hours of gaming. It’s called the PSP battery. Oh!
Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week.
