Do you have an old laptop lying around? You know the kind, it doesn’t run that fast anymore, and you have to keep it plugged into the wall at all times. Why not turn that laptop into another monitor for your desktop?

This guide shows you how to do just that. It’s actually pretty cool, but I’m not sure that I would put forth that much effort just to save a few bucks. Plus you pretty much destroy a decent laptop.

I really must commend this guy for actually going through with this. It looks like a lot of work, and it apparently works pretty well in the end. I think I’d rather just use an old bulky CRT if I were really desperate for another monitor.

hehe I have old laptops that I have no problem hacking into spare screens. They said you couldn’t do this.

Yeah Ultraorange, that was my take on it when I built it as well. I had the laptop, it was already halfway disassembled and I couldn’t think of any reason to keep it in one piece.

Oh and Chris, I would have actually preferred a 2nd CRT, but the Very Important Female in my life wasn’t having it…

Do you know if it is possible to take just the laptop screen and make it work with a Playstation2 to make it portable. Has this been done ?

Why not just install the software MaxiVista that allows you to use your laptop as an extra monitor for your main computer.
