Volkswagen I.D. electric car

Volkswagen has revealed its I.D. concept, an electric car the company expects to put into production for the 2020 model year. Intended to sit alongside the VW Golf as an option for those who want a fully-electric vehicle, the I.D. will run for up to 373 miles on a single charge.

There'll also be fast-charging support, while a new cabin design is intended to maximize the interior space without compromising on the city-friendly footprint.

However, the I.D. has also been designed with autonomous driving in mind. That won't be an option at launch, but VW expects to have a self-driving version ready for 2025.

That'll include a steering wheel that automatically retracts into the "dashpod" dashboard when the car is driving itself. Owners will also be able to receive packages delivered to the EV's trunk, with a new delivery service planned.
