The launch of Guitar Hero III is less than three weeks away. If you’re hoping to get a new wireless controller for your PS3, you may be a bit disappointed when you open the box.

Yes, I’m sure that the controller is great, though I haven’t gotten the opportunity to test one out yet. The disappointment will come with the giant dongle that you must plug in. It’s big, ugly and shaped like a guitar pick.
There are plenty of rumors floating around as to why Red Octane decided to take this route. Some say it’s because the Bluetooth technology wasn’t reliable enough, others say that Sony wouldn’t open up their wireless standard to Red Octane. I’m inclined to believe the latter. Either way, it’s just plain ugly.

Is there a wire connecting the Guitar to the PS3? No, so its completely wireless then. Idiots.

Sony license the wireless controller specs. for Bluetooth… compatible controllers are already on the market. (Unlike the XBOX 360.) Try some investigative reporting.
That dongle looks god-awful ugly. Nobody would notice on the XBOX, with WiFi dongle, HD-DUD drive, power supply, hard drive and third party cooler all already bolted to the box in some Frankenstein configuration. But the PS3 is nice and clean…. and the Guitar Hero dongle won’t be connected to it.
Looks like Red Octane just opted for the easy option that would work with both consoles… a USB dongle. Forget it Red Octane… you want my money then support Bluetooth.

It must not be that hard to get your money if you bought a PS3.

Sony’s wireless standard is bluetooth…which is standard, so it has nothing to do with Sony not letting them use bluetooth. anything that is bluetooth will connect to the ps3, it’s just redoctane not wanting to put bluetooth into the controller
