I’m a big fan of both Aerosmith, and classic rock in general, so I’m looking forward to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Sure, I’m expecting it to be the best game in the series, but it can’t be much worse than the 80’s edition, right? Well one of the first videos of the game have been released, so check it out after the jump.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

I’m not really sure who was in charge of putting this video together, but I hope they were fired. You’re advertising a game called Guitar Hero Aerosmith. So what two things would you think someone would prominantly display in a video? My guess would be the Guitar, and the band Aeorosmith. Since I don’t get paid to create these kinds of videos, I’m going to guess that I have no idea what I’m talking about, since the video barely has any of these two elements.

I don’t know who the hell Run DMC is, but for some reason he is featured in this video more than anything (or anyone) else. First they show off some song of his where he sings (raps?) for a long while without any guitar accompaniment. In fact, you have to watch over 30 seconds of the video before you hear the first note on a guitar.

After damn near an entire minute of this guy, we are finally catch a glimpse of Aerosmith. This is all good and well until the lyrics start up, then guess who’s singing? Steven Tyler? God no, why the hell would we want to hear him singing his own song when we can hve Run DMC singing it for him? It even lists the song as Walk This Way by Run DMC featuring Aerosmith.

So is this how the game is going to be? If I were to base any shred of my purchasing decision on this video, I wouldn’t even consider buying it. Too little guitar and too little Aerosmith.

Maybe I’m being a little harsh on the video, but how many uninformed gamers are going to see this and get completely turned off to the game? After that whole Guitar Hero: On Tour video, I’m starting to wonder who it is exactly that comes up with these.

Without Run DMC, there would be no Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, so I guess it’s fitting.

Here’s the video that resurrected Aerosmith from the ashes of obscurity.

Wow, How do you not know who Run DMC is? You must be really young. Like Shadejinx, You can’t have a Aerosmith game without Run DMC and their epic Hip-Hop/Rock crossovers cover of Walk This Way.

I thought the job of writers was to first inform themselves and THEN write. This article is a joke. You do nothing but rub your ignorance in our face. First of all, it’s clear that you are not an Aerosmith fan and didn’t even bother to acquaint yourself with the key points of their career. If you were a fan, you would know that the Run DMC cover of “Walk This Way” has been attributed, by Steven Tyler himself, as reviving the band and bringing them back to the mainstream. A simple search of wikipedia (maybe you’ve never heard of that either) would have told you as much.

Before writing this article, I did not know who Run DMC was, however, despite reading up the rap version of the song, I still stand by what was written. Mind you, I am an Aerosmith fan, and own several of their albums, none of which include this song. Rap music is not my thing, so since this song is clearly classified as rap, I’ve never encountered it on any radio station or album I’ve listened to.

The basis of the article has nothing to do with my musical tastes, and knowing who Run DMC is and how they affected Aerosmith’s career does not change my stance. It comes down to the fact that there is very little guitar and even less Aerosmith. Certainly not the kind of video I would want to use to promote a product with the words Guitar and Aerosmith in the name.
