GTA devs on Lohan lawsuit: a desperate cry for attention

Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar is finally speaking up and, like the atmosphere in the popular video game, it isn't holding back. It has asked for the case brought against it by Lindsay Lohan to be dismissed. The reason? It's nothing but a publicity stunt for the troubled actress.

It really sounds like a story straight out of a tabloid. But then again, this is Hollywood we're talking about. Last month, the once popular actress officially sued GTA makers Take Two and Rockstar because of an in-game character named Lacey Jonas. According to Lohan, there was an "unequivocal" resemblance between Lacey and Lindsay and that the portrayal was an attempt to capitalize on her issues, which, of course, is no secret to anyone who watches or reads the news.

Perhaps to some, there is some foundation to Lohan's accusation. Lacey is portrayed as blond, spoiled, and a brat. She's also an actress desperately trying to get away from the paparazzi. There is even a reference to Lohan's former nest, the Chateau Marmont. That said, how many disgraced blond prima donna's have seen strutting around in Hollywood?

The likeness between the characters, the digital one as well as the real-life one, can be debated to no end, but Lohan's story isn't exactly unique. It isn't exactly new either. There is a big chance that, until Lohan herself brought it up, no one probably equated the two. In fact, very few probably even noticed Lohan was still "active" in the public scene. Suffice it to say, whether this is a typical Lohan publicity stunt or not, it definitely put Lohan back in the spotlight, which is actually the point that Rockstar is trying to make.

The cruel irony is that, no matter how this case turns out, Lindsay Lohan emerges as the victor. If she manages to win in court, she will most likely get paid for royalties, or damages at the very least. On the other hand, even if she loses and has to pay Rockstar's attorney fees, she would have managed to grab the spotlight again for some time.
