I was in a bar watching the Super Bowl when the Tibet commercial played. There was a collective gasp and uncomfortable giggles followed by some anger.
I didn't really find these offensive other then the fact that they just weren't funny nor clever. I should also disclose that I have a T shirt that says "FREE TIBET!* *with purchase of one tibet of equal or greater value".

Not making fun of tibet, more making fun of people who try and make political statements with a tshirt. ;P

The problem with the ads was that not only were they offensive, they weren't even funny. Everyone I've encountered watched them and then looked at each other with a "did we really just see that" kind of look on their face. There was no nervous laughter, no "you guys need to stop being so PC that was hilarious" BS.

Not only were the ads not entertaining at all, they were misappropriative and make ridiculous light of what they pointed out at the beginning of the ad. I found the backlash to be much funnier than the actual ads, with some people tweeting that maybe GroupOn can help us find a great vacation deal to Egypt right now, or maybe a great tour group headed to Darfur.
