What is 'off' with cremating a pet?
Due to our legal ability to treat pets far more humanely than we do people it is not uncommon to have aged pets with debilitating and painful disease or age related conditions euthanized.
Is it your proposition then that people should bring the dead body home typically?
And do what with it?
Many could spend a morbid few hours burying it in the yard I suppose but then many, many people do not have yards.
Cremation of pets is very common and for very good reason.
I also don't see what would be off about keeping the ashes, as is common with other family members.
On the other hand, nothing odd about burying or scattering them either.

Agreed that the painting is weird... but why is cremation strange? Maybe it's cause I grew up Hindu but it seems like a pretty normal thing to do.

If you think about it, burying the dead in a box is a weird thing to do.

My dad owns a crematory, you would be blown away by the number of people that bring in pets to have cremated. Chances are if more people knew about this, they would be asking for it.
