Sometimes it’s hard to remember if you have already purchased a product or not, especially when you’re out window shopping or if you have an extensive DVD library. However, now you can keep track of all of your purchases, whether it be DVDs, books, CDs or what have you. Groqit makes keeping track of your product purchases a snap.
Groqit works by scanning and reading the barcodes on your purchases and storing them in the device’s 128MB storage. You can also create categories within the device to better manage your purchases. And don’t worry about running out of room. This pen-shaped device can store more than a million barcodes.
So, the next time you’re out and about, you can quickly scan the barcode of a potential purchase to double check if you have it or not. Now, unless you’re super forgetful, I’m not sure this device will be that practical. The only time I could see this being practical is if you have a huge library of movies or books. Once you’ve scanned products, you can log onto the Groqit website to have the barcodes translated into actual product names. Groqit costs $95 plus $4.95 a month for the translation service.

If you give or get gifts, you can use the free services at Groqit’s site to share lists with friends.
I have a lot of science fiction books and movies. My friends know I like sci fi, but they’ve been afraid if they get me a new movie it will be one I already have — THEY can’t remember what all my stuff is. Even a small collection can make it so the people who would most like another one don’t get it.
Groqit’s site has tools that are free to use. They help you fill in information about books, movie, music and games (you put in a title, or a barcode number, the site’s data bases fill in the rest). You can put in a wishlist for books you want, one for games you want, and make lists of the movies you already have so they don’t worry about surprising you with a new one. You can make as many lists as you want, 100 items per list, free, and share them with as many friends as you want (also free).
So your lists are all in one place, and your friends can look them up whenever your birthday is coming up.
I have a Groqit because I do have a lot of stuff, and it helps me be organized. But it’s not just about me. Its also got my best friends’ lists on it when I go shopping for them!
